the beast has developed a missfire and loss of power when driving. started playing up on way out last sunday. It would just suddenly cut out and pop and fart untill you pulled over . After a few minutes looking for any loose wires or bad conections it would start up and idle as normal.
Did this all day. The higher the constant revs were the quicker it would play up again. On the way home it got that bad it was backfiring and blowing flames out exhaust. as a last ditch effort to get home we had to hot wire the coil. this helped but ya could still feel it trying stutter.
Now since getting home i have replaced the dizzy, coil, tried different leads, checked and cleaned the plugs, and even did a compression test but still it cuts out.
Any ideas of what to check or replace next.
Cheers

if wiring power to the coil fixed it its probablya s tuffed ignition switch, any other probs are unrelated and probably stuffed plugs
are you changing all this and still hot wiring the coil power?
without the hotwiring I would say the module was stuffed or the pickup in the dissy is loose

B4T, you've got a 16v haven't you? One with the external coil? I'm guessed ignition pickup but hotwiring the coil shouldn't have made any difference if it was.

Its still the 1.3. I replaced the dizzy and coil and it still happends.
Hot wiring didnt fix it but it helped keep it goin to get home from coldstream.
