| Post subject: | Help needed with new Coily! |
Hello all. Just got my first 4wd and it had to be a Sierra! I'd spent a few days in the Wauchope bush with a mate in his and was taken back with how capable they were, and now I have myself a 97 Coily as a play car for the weekends.
It's a little rough here and there, but it's currently getting some TLC at the panel shop to fix some sill issues (or lack of them) and then there's a few thing I need to tackle. Could someone help me out with the following questions please? 1. Is there a commercial moulded carpet or vinyl floor for the Coily? The carpet in mine is rooted and definitely needs retiring. As I'm slowly learning, there's no worries sourcing carpet from eBay, etc for a leafy to 89, but anything further on seems to be non-existent. How different is the floor pan in a Coily to the pre 89? Worth modifying perhaps? 2. My windscreen washer nozzle is broken. I have sourced another one from eBay, but I'm at a loss as to how to remove the old severed one. It would seem that a dashboard removal is in order to change it, which (I hope) can't be right. I've had a look through the various service manuals I've procured but can't see anything referring to it, which hopefully means I'm an idiot, it's super simple and I'm overthinking it....
3. Does the replacement of the fuel tank sender really require dropping the tank? Every other car I've played with has an inspection port where the sender can be replaced without dropping the tank. Just wanted to confirm. I've got myself some 30x9.5x15 Muddies and new 15x7 Sunraysias waiting to be fitted once the 40mm eBay suspension lift kit gets here - then maybe a body lift if necessary. I'm also interested in one of the tuff looking JML bars with a cheapie winch as solitary outings are a distinct possibility. I can see this getting addictive (and costly) - oh well! Thanks in advance, c1ockwork Port Macquarie, NSW |

Another coily 1 - floor pan's are essentially the same. Should fit ok. I would recommend vinyl floor over carpet for ease of cleaning 2 - never done it, can't help 3 - http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... pic&t=4140 4 - 30's with eBay lift might require some guard manipulation with a hammer, with BL you will have minimal trouble Cheers Rusho |

I'm guessing the Dash has to come out. Not a big job really - 20 minutes or so and you should have it loose enough to get to the washer. Steve. |

Hi Guys. Thanks for all of the excellent responses. I woke up to all my questions answered! Much appreciated. With regards to the floor, I priced vinyl today and it's bloody expensive for something that's not guaranteed to fit - so I've gone the Bunnings route! Heavy vibration absorbing rubber tiles cut to the same shape as the regular underfloor felt and marine carpet. A bit of mucking around but significantly cheaper and using the old carpet as a template and avoiding any major moulded areas (meaning the carpet will be multi-piece) should see a neat result. It's not quite as durable as vinyl but being as the carpet doesn't rot I figure it's the next best thing. One thing I will need to remember is that what's a big job on other cars is not necessarily a big job on a Zook - such as dropping a tank or partially removing a dashboard. I'm loving the mechanical simplicity, and will tackle both jobs shortly. Thank you all again for the links and advice with regards to the nozzle and tank sender. CBZook - Yes, that is Coworra, good eye! I'd just got it in that shot and was driving around the forest getting used to the vehicle and looking for things to drive over whilst not getting stuck with the almost road tyres that were (and still are) on it. Good times were had. Would love to head out one day! Today has been productive. Seat hunting in the morning - the factory seats are rooted as the foam has separated from the upright supporting metal rods so now the rods sit in your back as you drive. Comfy. Nearly bought some Hyundai Accent seats out of desperation but wasn't looking forward to fitting them as both the Zook and the Hyundai have different height seat rails left to right, making marrying them up harder than it should be. Thankfully a later trip to SuperCheap had me run into some Saas seats that were the perfect width, recline forwards for rear access, had flat bottomed rails and were cheap - $189 each. Super happy with purchase, now to make them fit! Seats:
Stripped the interior in the afternoon and cut the carpet and deadener as described above in the evening, time to wash the floor pan tomorrow to remove 15 years of crap and get busy making the carpet fit. Man that carpet was nasty, stunk too. Dead carpet cut to make templates for new pieces:
New pieces of deadener fitted - about 10mm thick anti-vibration rubber sheets (excuse nighttime photo):
And from a few weeks ago, RUST!:
Looks better now, though the panel work is only half done. Cheers, c1ockwork Port Macquarie, NSW |
