Post subject:  G16b timing belt prob

Hey, am replacing my timing belt I've followed the
Correct process tensioning the belt, tensioner bolt
finger tight, 2x cranks to get correct tension, tighten
Tensioner stud followed by the tensioner bolt. BUT
When I crank it over with the starter the belt starts
To walk off the pullys( I've repeated the process 3 times)

Can anyone help, with what might be causing this?
Thanks luke

you havent seated one of the pulleys back on square, pull em off and make sure they are square and you also have the big bolt in on the crank pulley

Am sure that the pulleys are seated well, but still
Belt walks, are timing belts directional because no
Markings on this one?

Sombody once told me to always fit them with the writing so it was the right way to read it when standing at the front of the engine

Only other thing I can think of is the belt too tight or tensioner loose so the idler is flexing

How far off the pulley have you let it get?

Yes that's the way I always fit belts, so
The writing goes the same way the motor
Cranks. The tensioners good, I'll fiddle with
The belt tension till I get it right, I've done
Them before on the 1.3
thanks mate

i have done mine 3 times and always done it, put the bottom pulley on and that holds it on. was told this by the boys at suzistore. just make sure that the belt is on evenly on top and bottom gears.

Yeah mate i worked that out, but your post is right on
the money problem solved just needed to put the fan
pulley on and fixed, Last time it was on old 1.3, so
didn't care as much put it all on And it worked,
but with the 16valve I was being careful so I was
Checking it with the cover off so I didn't have the
fan pulley on ether

Thanks alot guys
