hi guys. looking at supercharging my sierra with something like a sc12. has 1.6 efi vitara motor. just wondering how much boost i could run before i upgrade my ecu. does the AFM adjust the fuel air ratio and whats the highest boost you can run before upgrading ecu?? also when upgrading the ecu you can remove the AFM? |

umm... lets see... you can run Nothing  Unless you want to lean out your motor and watch it burn in the fiery pits of hell
Well from my research thats what i've found anyway
if your going to go to the extent of Turbo'ing or Supercharging your Sierra, do it once and do it properly, get an ECU, Wire it in, and get it tuned right

ave a look around in the threads for stuff on a Megasquirt. In my personal opinion, with the low cost of putting a megasquirt on an engine today one would have to be a retard to try and "squeeze" what they could out of the factory ECU. You'd just be pissing your time, and in all likelyhood money, against the wall. |

Oh yeah, and get the programmable ECU running well on the un-modified engine first then go forced induction. That way you're minimizing the number of changes at any one time and drastically reducing the risk of the project becoming a right PITA. |

damn. sounding a bit full on lol. thought it would be a good idea to get some more poke out of the engine as were i live i drive massive sandhills and need a bit more power. |

Tyres to big for those gears, I have n/t (which Have lower diff ratios) with the 16valve I run 29"s And I can't find a dune it won't go up! |

Seriously did you really think you could just 'bung on' a supercharger and away she goes? A rising rate FPR with the stock ECU can be made to work but unless you have a spare engine on standby it really is a dodgy band-aid compromise. Plus teh fact that these G motors are not really the strongest things out there. I've done some reading. So I have no experience at all on this. But I've read that the sc12 is very old and not made by Toyota anymore and also very hard to get parts for. Let me know how you go though, because I'd love to boost mine.

Hey guys.....look at it this way. Unless you already know what you are doing ( and I mean down to the last nut and bolt ) with regards to install and more importantly, tuning; the money you save now by not running a piggy back or stand alone replacement ECU, and fuel system upgrades will be needed to replace your motor very soon after. The G16B is not really suited to forced induction in standard trim. So anything short of a 'all bases covered' install will absolutely result in a search for a replacement motor. |

1.6 EFI is stacks of grunt for a Sierra mate... Your issue is not a lack of power, its a lack of gearing. Get some 4.9 gears or similar in the transfer and you'll be sweet as. |

Oh thats right, 31's with no gearing and a blown 1.6 on a Sierra is a great setup. If you like changing clutches once a week

Daily I'm thinking of new and exciting plans to boost mine. There's nothing quite like that feeling when you've done a conversion yourself, and you take it out for the first time. Last time this happend with me was a datsun 1200, sideways in a straight line followed shortly by clutch failure

ok not being either way but it has been done.. a certen red sierra got built, driven round Hobart, up to qld, across and back down with a g13bb (1300 version of the vitara basicly) super charger running 8psi and a rising rate... it is still owned buy auszookers member and still driven about. |

It is WELL documented that the GTI internals are substantially stronger than a vitara motor. How about you compare apples with apples...... |

i'll back Phil on this one, i caught up with Simon on his epic mainland adventure & that little jigger was one of the only Sierra's that didn't struggle through the hills & on the open road, can't remember the number of km's he did on that trip but it would have to be near enough to 10,000kms & it was in Brenno's green LWB before that. |
