I have learnt to balance it and change gears
in the sierra I had a travel mug with a handle I could hook over the jesus bar, in the vit most cups will wedge between the handbrake and passenger seat
or get some pvc pipe and a cap and make a holder and screw it to the tunnel

The PVC idea is a good one. Not really sure where it will go though, as there is very little room between my seats. I'll have a sniff around Bunnings' plumbing section

if you have a over head shelf get a stuby cooler with a cord and they don't spill while you 4wding but in the really ruff stuff you might cop a bottle in the head but its right there for when you need a drink to settle you nerves

Saw a few interesting bits at Bunnings but nothing that I have figured out into a good solution yet. I'll keep looking & thinking.

these dont make a bad cup holder..
various sizes available obviously..
a hole drilled thru the bottom for draining that spilt liquid, and using a bracket similar as shown so its easily removed and washed...
being under $20.. this would actually fit within the two topics Merge away oh mighty Mod.

you can actually get cup holders that clip onto the door. they have a thin arm that slides down the window glass and the cup is held hanging down the doorskin. seen them ages ago at supercrap. pretty sure they still sell them.

I have the Ones that Clip onto the Window sill, not good for Large Macca's cups but do fit cans rather well and forget about 600mm bottles..
Cheapest Alternative, Go to Macca's order Two Drinks and BAAM Ghetto Drink holder.. Its Cardboard but does work..

thats where i got the idea for mine. it sits perfectly in the area above the glove box, is free and holds all bottles/can in that size.

got the cup holder from repco and cable tied it on. its a touch too small for large things like macas cups or thermoses but works good for holding phones, cans, hand held uhf ect.

The issue of cupholders is one to be taken quite seriously.
I have attached an article from the Qld Police Union Journal that highlights the issues concerned.
