Hey guys was searching the web for info on alternator convertions for a 1.3 sierra when i came across this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... =WDVW&rd=1 From what i see it's far easier than a falcon convertion but couldn't find much info on guys in australia useing this kit. Just wanting to know what peoples thoughts are?

Looks alright dude. Pro - You get a Brand new Altenator with the kit - its a bolt on package by the look of it. Con - Its about 3 times the price of a Falcon Alt conversion.

That kit looks pretty good, but.................. Replacing that alt won't be easy locally if you get it full of mud.. It retains a V belt.... I had to go to multirib on my falcon alt as a V belt can't take the load needed to make 100+ amp. US$229 plus freight will make it near enough to $300 by the time you get it.... A lot cheaper to do an EF falcon alt conversion.

the cs 130 alt are available in oz, not sure of cost but they are available if you need to replace them.

Ok i see yer point The falcon is cheeper then i thought. but from what i've read the is alot of work and mucking around to get the falcon alt to fit. I'm not planing to sink my alt in mud either. So would the falcon alt be worth the trouble? or would i be better off with something like this?

cs130 seems like a pretty generic alternator for GM vehicles. Lots of parts and variants on eBay. You can pick them up as cheap as the new falcon ones. $130 landed out of the states (new). Lots of upgrade kits available to if you find 105amps isn't enough I guess if the V belt didn't hold you could chuck a serpentine one on. Lots of pulleys available for them off eBay.

What about the wiring bit he was on about, plugs straight in, where as you need to do shit with wires to get the EF to work.

there are 2 wires, if you get them wrong nothing happens and you swap them over, shit you could leave the engine running while you do it trying to drive that much with a V belt is a good point, you start winding up the belt tension up and you are putting more load on the alternator and water pump bearings

CairnsZook: i have just read that link but im still confused. If i do the falcon alt, what pullys will i need? It seems every bodys useing diffrent pulleys?

Not sure mate, I've got a 1.6 so all my pulleys are ribbed anyway. You'll have to swap yours to be ribbed like the alternator.

I would also like to see an alternator put out 100+ Amps on a V belt. As royce stated it would lead to one over tightening the belt and causing premature bearing failure. Multi Rib belts have far more surface area in contact with the pully and therefore do not slip under higher loads like the V belts. Stick with the EL alternator and get the right pulleys and you'll be laughing.

I have done a bit more research into the GM cs130 alt and it's a Small high output alt and it's not much bigger than the standed 1.3 alt. Because of the size would the v belt still be an issue? There seems to be a few guys in the US that have them with out any trouble. Or would i just be better with the falcon alt?

Or would i just be better with the falcon alt? its more to do with the horespower required to spin it at full load, which will be twice as much as the stock alternator Now being that its unlikely youll ever get the thing making 100 amps (batteries dont really charge much higher than 30 amps) it will never be a problem, but if you were using it a lot (lots of lights or similar) youd notice the slipping

Well im planning on runing Driveing lights, rear work light, led intirior lights, a winch and wanted to put in a bigger battery. I wanted the alt to be able to Charge the larger battery with out the risk of the battery dieing in the ass due to alt not being able to keep up. I'm still tempted to get this kit and see how it gose, but on the other hand i dont want to go spending money on somthing thats not going to due the job. At this stage i think the Falcon alt convertion is looking like a better option.
