So now my new engine is soooo much quieter than it used to be, the constant whine from my gearbox in 1st, 3rd and 5th is rather annoying. 8O

I'm not about to replace the box just because of it.

So has anyone used any of these gearbox oil additives with any success? A bit of searching on the web would have you think redline shockproof would solve every one of NASA's engineering problems. But at $170 to fill the trans, well, it's an old trans on the way out and I'm not sure I want to invest $170 in oil for it.

I changed the oil in it about 10,000 ago and it was hemorrhaging metal... But the oil probably hadn't been changed by the previous owner in 100k...

Dunno if you can still get it but STP had some oil additive called super slick or something like that. It was good stuff!

I have used a nulon additive and a moreys additive in various cars some had diff whines, some had noises from the gearbox and transfer.

They both have made a huge difference in about 60% of the cars that they were put in. I think the moreys one was a little better.

At $25 from supercheap for the larger tube (enough for the trans and transfer case) its quite economical...

Yeh that was the nulon one...

If you can find the moreys one (some places had never heard of it) it is better.
