I was driving through town today, had just picked up a torque wrench, some grease and other bits to install the new axles, when I heard a really bad noise from the front end.

As I pulled up to a red light, my right front wheel locked up! Luckily I was only crawling along for the last metre or so when it happened. When the light went green, I moved forward very slowly (with the steering pulling heavily to the right) and made it into a car park.

Luckily I had all the tools in the back, after a trip out to the Western Tiers on Sunday. After I pulled the wheel off I found this 8O

The pad had wedged itself in real hard, causing the wheel to initially lock up. The disc is badly scored and will need to be machined, if not replaced, and one of the little metal clips that holds the pad in place disintegrated.

My next stop was actually Burson's to pick up some new pads! It wasn't far so I walked the rest of the way
Luckily it didn't happen on the weekend while I was traveling at speed on slippery Western Tasmanian roads!

Anyone know where I can find some more clips for the pads?

Yeah, could have been really nasty...
Main reason it came out was because it was just too worn out. That'll teach me for not listening to her. She started making noises about it a week ago :(

Thanks Royce, I'll get all new rotors too. Not a real good idea to be a tight-arse when it comes to brakes.

might be worth a quick ring around to the wreckers to see if you can get a set of vitara wagons calipers for an upgrade seeing you are replacing most of it anyway

Interesting, what's involved with this job?

Do I need Vitara rotors as well?

Haha - worth a try anyway.

I'm really busy with study at the moment, so I don't know if I'll have they time.
I'll do a bit of research and see how it goes.

Edit:

It looks like they are bolt on from any LWB Vit! :woohoo:

Here's what they look like.
