If you do replace the whole thing, tie some strong'ish wire round it before you pull the cable from behind the heater & use it to pull the new one through...
It's best to run em where in the original place's, or you'll get a jumpy speedo or a short life out of the cable...

I read yesterday where you don't have to drop the cluster, I got my hand up there, but couldn't pull it off.
Does it half turn first, or use more force ?
Replacing the inner cable only, do I just assume the outer is good behind the heater ?.

bye

Can't say much about the outer but I know to pull it off the cluster I just gave it a good yank and a slight twist at the same time. Think like pulling an aerial cable off a TV.

My TV aerial cable screws on with an "F" connector.
