Not sure if this will be usefull to anyone, but thought I'd post this up as info for those out there.
It refers to the fuel filter on a 02GV, V6

I purchased a filter kit from ebay, a company called 4wd_products. The kit included air, oil and fuel filters, although at the time I ordered it I was only after the fuel filter At the price I thought why not give it a crack.

I've not fitted the air or oil filter yet so can't comment. I have however fitted the fuel filter so here are my thoughts/observations.

There are some slight differences in the direction the pipes face when the filter is correctly fitted to the bracket. The 4wd_products one can also have the inlet face to the 7:30 (roughly) direction when fitted properly also.
this made it slightly more difficult to fit the hose up but in the end caused no real concerns.

The body of the 4wd_products filter is smaller diameter than the OEM which means that when you tighten the bracket up to the filter properly, the holes to fit it all up to the car don't line up spot on anymore due to being closer together (eg 110mm apart instead of 130mm apart - using BS #'s to give the example).

What I did was to make the top elongated hole a slot.
I used a thick body washer and a slightly longer bolt on the top mount.
Put the bolt/washer in the hole loosely and then fed the bracket up under the washer
Fit up the lower bolt then tighten it all up nice and tight.
Then fit the hoses as per normal and then do the usual leak checks once finished

So far it's not leaked or had any other problems.

When I get to about 10k kms I'm guna pull it out and cut it open to see what's inside. I'm guna cut the OEM (which I've saved as a spare at the moment incase this new one fails) apart at the same time and compare.

I finally got around to replacing the fuel filter this weekend (after ~15k kms instead of the 10k I was touting above. Meh).
Anyways, I cut open what I presume is the OEM filter and the one I fitted from 4WD_products (via Ebay).

The OEM filter is on the left which I can only presume is as old as the car was when I replaced it (140ish kms), replacement is on the right (aprox 15k kms old)

I cut open the replacement filter first by starting at the inlet side (bottom of pic) which was a mistake as the filter element is attached to the outlet side isn't it. So I cut the outlet side off and pulled it all apart and laid it out on the table .
I then cut the OEM apart by starting at the outlet side and laid it all out on the table. I didn't need to cut the inlet side off the OEM filter so the body is in one piece compared to the replacement.
OEM filter element (second thing from the bottom of the pic, left hand filter):
It is constructed similar to a bog roll and is wrapped around the whitish tube above it and seamed to be glued to the wall of the filter body but that could have been due to the time it was on the car and the time it took me to cut it open. The whitish circle lookin thing above the tube is part of it all and would normally be attached to the tube, it was cut off when I opened up the outlet side with a hacksaw.
The filtering element itself is 130cm long by 8 cm wide when laid out. Not sure what it's made of but feels like a sort of paper nor do I know the micron rating.
Replacement filter element (2nd from the top of the pic, right hand filter):
The element is pleated style and is glued to what I'll call the element cap (3rd from the top in the pic) and the outlet side of the filter (top of pic). The element is positioned in such a way as to only go around the filter once.
The filter element itself is 80cm long by 5cm wide when laid out. Not sure what it's made of but feels like a sort of paper nor do I know the micron rating.

I've now put on a AC Delco fuel filter which I'll run for 10k kms (or maybe 15 k kms if I forget like this one) and update the thread once I get there.

nice write up, goes to show the difference in quality between the OEM & aftermarket

will be interesting to see what the guts of the AC delco filter looks like.
