| Post subject: | oily spark plugs? |
i have noticed that lately my 95 sierra has been using a bit of oil and i just pulled the spark plugs to check them and all of the threads seemed oily and no 1 plug had pool of oil around the washer at the base of the plug would this be from oil pushing past the rings .There is no other oil leaks ( rocker cover etc.). I am cotemplating a rebuild soon just curious if there is any suggestions who to use i'm in the ipswich/ west brisbane area i got a quote for a complete rebuild exchange engine for $2000 is that about right or to much have never had to get engines rebuilt before so i dont know. |

If you need the job done in a hurry and with a warranty, Suzi Auto at Springwood do a drive-in drive-out 1.3 swap for around $2200. One of my coilies has a Suzi Auto reco engine in it that was done 6 years ago and now has 175,000km on it and is still going great. |

Is it on the electrode? Cos that just sounds like oil seeping from the rocker cover into the plug spaces. |

Im doing my 1990 at the moment, costed 580 in parts and 95 for head recondition. Doing it your self or conning your mate into it is so much cheaper |

Not all out but it didnt really need that much. Only doing a rebuild cause i lost it and stripped it after a night shift |

I coulnd get the rocker assembly off. So removing that. Machining pressure test density test and something else i think |

Sitting out the front of my house with mine all rebut next to me waiting for the misses to get home to put in. 1600 for head, block, flywheel grind, and timing belt kit supplied. I have to bolt head to block to save monies. Was happy to spend abit rather than do it myself to make sure all is good. |

Sierra dan there is no oil on the electrode but is on the threaded section of the plugs and on the inside of the washer at the base of the spark plug, there is no oil leaks on the rocker cover as stated in my original post and i cant see how a leaking rocker cover could let oil seep past the washer and down the thread of the plugs when they were tight.Also shouldn't any oil on the electrode be burnt of when the engine is running. |

Just my experience - but any time I've had oil on the threads, the problem has been that the plugs weren't tight. You can get plugs with crush washers and plugs with tapered seats - and they are interchangeable - but they require different tightening sequences - especially the crush washer style, where the sequence is different for new plugs & used plugs. |
