Hey, finally cranked over my rebuilt engine.

On idle it is reving from 1000-2000rpm up and down, and running really lumpy and rough... but it drives okay..

We have tested the leads, plugs (there new of course) Injectors, and a few other things like the idle control and what not..

Can anyone suggest any ideas to check etc?

Code''s.......

It's hunting, searching for a signal....

go back to your testing the idle control

how did you do this? if you were to stick a test light across the 2 wires and observe it while idling, does the test light get brighter when the revs rise and then get duller and you can almost see the flash as the idle lowers?

if so then the ecu is doing it and you need to find out whats upsetting it, if not its an air leak or the cold start idle control isnt working due to air lock in the cooling system or blockage or something

check all your intake is nice and sealed up, sometimes a leak here makes the afm give a bad signal and it goes crazy

We used the test light, it was a faint glow, I will re test it tomorrow as we didnt leave it there and observe it for awhile...

If so, how do we find out why the ecu would be doing it for?
Air intake is pretty well sealed up, I will check and see if can be tightened anymore...

A blockage or air lock in the cooling system... the engine block has been cleaned out prior to rebuild, what other possible blockages could there be? I am 99% sure the radiator is all clear...

Thanks for the help

mine used to do it from an air leak, was just all the vacuum hoses being a little loose so it doesnt take much

there is 2 potential leaks right there, unplug those broken solenoids

where are those extractors from?

Unplug, and see how it runs?
Those are calmini extractors, I got them from lowrange

Tested the idle control, seemed fine no flicking lights on the tester bulb...

I have one vacuum hose on VSV purge control which isnt hooked up the piece is brocken and I will need a new one to be able to hook a hose up to it..

I am re-adjusting the valves this arvo

what is your idea of seems fine?

if the light was lit up then the ECU is holding the revs up, its not supposed to do that so you need to find the real problem

make sure all the air is purged out the cooling system , you may have an airlock causing the idle to hunt.

Make sure you have the vacuum hose from the manifold to the brake booster.
