Post subject:  HID Headlight Conversion for Vitaras

Guys.....

After my last Night Run in the Bush and seeing a mates HID Headlight Conversion on his Vitara, it got me thinking.....

What's people's thoughts in HID Headlights and is there any downsides that I would need to know... Anything to look out for ???

These were shown to me by a mate on eBay for a $113 (he's trialling them ATM): Xenon HID Conversion Kit Suzuki Vitara 1988-2000

what makes them illegal?

They need to be auto adjusting so they don't blind people. New cars have that feature, that is why they are utilised.

What do u mean by this.... That they automatically adjust as the weight in the car increases or something else ???

Post subject:  Re: HID Headlight Conversion for Vitaras

they need to self level over a certain level of light output according to the ADR's

the main problem is the light output pattern for any HID bulb is massively different to a h4 globe so you throw all the beam pattern built into the lights out the window

which might not worry the driver so much but it will piss off everyone around you

In this situation where you want more light around you while going slow LED light bars are likely hard to beat

This.

I actually removed the HID's from my ute because they would throw light everywhere! The depth of the bulb in relation to the reflector is very important, and not at all adjustable with aftermarket HID kits.

The HID's in my Vit are great. I love them. They're an amazing upgrade, I had them in my 4Runner years ago. Then a set in my dads Patrol, then a set in my MX5 and now a set in my Vit, they are an excellent upgrade. The light output is so much better than the standard crap these cars come with.

They are illegal, but I do lots of night driving so they are entirely appropriate for me. I also have HID Spotties, which are stupid bright.

Just make sure your headlights are adjusted down so they aren't annoying for other drivers.

Cheers

Matty

I would have thought that there would have been more to it than simply adjusting the headlights.....
Did this fix the problem of the lights being a PITA to on-coming traffic ??

Lol they are brighter than standard lights for oncoming traffic, but not bad enough for people to flash me. I've never been flashed, if your in a really low car they can be annoying in the rear view mirror.

HID's are an easy defect in my eyes & a reason to be pulled over for more defects... a bit like driving around with a tail light globe blown.

get a brighteyes headlight loom upgrade & be done with it legally.

I've been followed by my car multiple times at night and I didn't find the lights annoying unless I was in a low car, even when in a commodore they're fine. HIDs are a great upgrade. The better you can see the safer you can drive. ;)

X11ty billion.

I can't wait 'till they start pulling up all the guys around here with old 70 series and Hiluxs with HIDs, they really gouge your eyes out when they drive past. It might be okay for you guys who daily you 4wds but it seriously sucks for anyone at normal car level.

Luckily, our local drift/ricer crowd consists 1 Silvia and 2 300zxs (Yeah, big town) and none of them have HIDs, I have noticed they all seem to have them up in the big cities though.

I find Minis and Volvos are particularly bad for HID flash too.
