Hey guys. i understand that auto lockers engage and disengage alot. while cornering slowly ... etc

My question is. will a front locker have any affect on the vehicle when the hubs are free ? or does it only come into play when you lock em up ?

If the hubs are unlocked then the wheel's aren't connected to the dfff, so it will have not effect.

Doesn't even have an affect with the hubs locked when in 2wd. Only notice it when in 4wd and hubs are locked.

All lockers are good, budget will dictate which one suits you. Auto locker will affect your steering in 4wd, good for mud, technical rocky stuff, you'll probably not like it on sand though. Don't know what vehicle you have but if you give it hell in low with 4.9s you will be a little more likely to murder CVs.

Depends on how picky you are. I have an auto locker rear and a welded front with 4.16's and it drives things i wish it wouldnt sometimes haha.
Its a bitch to do tight turns but otherwise pretty good in my opinion. engine braking downhill isn't fun though. so unlock your hubs or whatever.

i have an 89 sierra so cv's arent a problem. i heard auto lockers like lockrite and spartains arent great because they arent always locked. and to get them to lock in you need to give it quite a bit. seemed to me like you cant just crawl ? not to sure if thats acurate.

also, will auto lockers fit straight into WT diffs ?

Auto lockers are really auto unlockers.

Diff stays locked, until a wheel tries to go faster, ie you turn

That's crap, they drive any wheel with traction, only "unlock" to allow a ground driven wheel to go faster than the other. In terms of traction they will get you anywhere any other locker will.
They'll fit straight in I think p/n is LR 1510.

Yes, but some people like to upgrade front diff to a 4 pinion first.

i mostly idle everywhere and have never noticed only one front wheel driving.
lockright 1510 will fit a 2 pin wt diff :wink:

how can i upgrade to a 4pinion ? swap out from a NT ??? how else is this normally done ?

i figure upgrading to 4 pinion will help to ease the stress of a locker slightly ? or does it not make much difference ?

btw, thanks for all the help guys this is awesome. 4.9's and front locker this lil beast should go pretty well in mud and rocks, which is what i love.

My Vitara has a Spartan auto front locker in a 2 pin diff,
not given me any trouble.

But yes grab a 4pinion from a Narrow track 1.3 if you wish a 4 pin

i just read that a spartain wont work with only 2 pin on lowrange ?

2 pin diff is plenty strong enough, unless you are really rough.

mine has been going for 4 or 5 years now with no issue. that's with 6.5s and
up to 33" tyres. oh and i tow a heavy trailer through the bush as well.

Bear in mind the NT is 3.9 and your WT if stock is 3.7, if you go 4 pinion use the carrier only in your diff.

Yes, but you need the cross pin block from a 4 pin diff to make it work.

They also say that have no spartan for Vitara fronts.
I use a Sierra Spartan in my Vitara front.

They just covering thier asses,
in case people stuff up cars with poor mods.

yeah i rekn ill just stick with the 2 pin.

but then with lockers like spartains and lockrite which have 3 pins in the kit (look to be one main long pin and 2 smaller ones) how do you set it up ?.... just leave the 2 smaller pins out ? or this makes no difference ?

PLEASE NOTE that if you have a 1990 and up Samurai (normally those that are fuel injected) the carrier in the front is what is called a "2 Pin Carrier." This will not work with a Spartan because they use the factory side gears and cross shaft into the other 3 holes. You would have to source a "4 pin carrier" out of the front of an 1989 and older Samurai.

get a lockright. bolt it into ya diff. set the diff up correctly. wheel it.

have a look at all the lockright's wont fit wt front diff threads on outers around 5 years ago.

lockright goes into a 2 pin diff without any extra bits. ie every thing that is needed is already in a 2 pin wt diff or is with the locker.
