If you have put hilux diff in a sierra the front hilux diff is in the road of the spring because you cant move the spring prech over because it sits right beside the diff so what do you do i was going to move the front springs out |

Here's part of a quote from that forum. "Quote" A simple search will yeild all the answers on this forum. Its a 1981 1 litre, and he is putting in some hilux diffs and wants it to be legal. It will never be legal in queensland ever. full stop never read NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! Firstly you will have to change the diffs from six stud back to the original stud pattern of 5 stud, then since you have changed the brakes you will have to show all your calculations as to how you worked out how the master cylinder, line deformation in the flex lines etc etc etc Then you will have to get your custom made steering components engineered, crack tested x rayed and all the usual stuff. Then your custom made spring perches will have to be engineered crack tested x rayed etc etc etc. Then back to the paperwork showing how the roll centre of the vehicle isn't affected, how the vehicle is still as strong as it was when it left the factory. Also since you can't change the track in qld by more than 50mm get a set of custom made wheels so the offset is correct. So for your $500 27 year old car with your free diffs it will cost approx $75000 to do it legally and you will end with a car that is no better than a standard sierra... Or you can do the dodgy conversion yourself cutting all your pices as you go along and then realise that you can't get the steering to connect in a safe manner and do a real dodgy steering setup like every other person who has done this conversion and have it snap at 60 kmph and run through someone front yard hitting their house and end up with a huge bill cause your insurance company wiped your claim because your dodgy unegineered bucket should not have been on the road in the first place. hahaha, evil but kinda funny cos its probably true. I wonder... if it IS stolen and the LEGIT owner has seen it on here, what would be the process of recovery? two charges that come to mind would be... Obtaining property by deception Possesion of stolen goods Do we have any legal people in here? coppers? lawyers? maybe there is a QC hiding out amongst us!?? *not saying it is _noddy, am just wondering!! |

I think recieving stolen goods would be hard to pin from an ad in the paper kinda thing you would lose it though, even if you spent $25000 on it the police will still jsut take it away and give you nothing |

it wouldn't be stolen because WHO would steel a 1L hardtop? I don't know anyone that would want one and even if someone did steel it, the original owner would probably be happy it was gone. |

That reminds me years ago when my uncle had his Volvo stolen. The insurance company did an audit and investigation on him and his business looking for insurance fraud. They honestly didn't believe that someone had stolen a Volvo as they'd never had a theft claim on one before. He was also happy that someone had stolen it. |

all i wanted to find out is how to move front right spring in because to spring perch sites right beside the diff center i was tinking of just moving the front springs out it for a buggy NOT for the road it will have a 2.2 motor in it . |

So how can I put Sierra diffs into a Hilux. Anyone????? Hellooooooooooooo Anyone??????????????????? Easiest way I have found Bruce is one guy on each end and lift with the knees, don't wear a good shirt either as they tend to leak oil, if that don't get you the brake fluid will. Fork lift is easier still but I don't have one in my shed (yet). Sorry are we talking 2WD or 4WD Hilux as this will change the process. 4WD you may need lifting blocks to stand on to get the required height, I find besser blocks the best though "MY FOOT REST" can come in handy, but you know the rules on footwear on the footrest. |

yer i think the hilux spring mounts line up with the Sierra widetrack spring mounts on the chassis, so you'll have to move the spring mounts. |

If you have a NT and you want to stick with leaves. Do a shackle reversal. This set up uses Hilux leaves. |

you would lose it though, even if you spent $25000 on it the police will still jsut take it away and give you nothing but you certainly will get your money back if you take the guy that sold it to you to court. (when i bought my vitara 2 days after i got her home coppers rock up on my door and are like were did u get this car blah blah blah turns out some guy seen me drivin the vit around and noticed his softtop attached to it. The softtop was stolen off another vit and put onto mine when sold cops siezed it and i was forced to buy a new one wich in return the person i bought it off was taken to court and now she pays for it. |

i just finished this conversion.. believe me, it ISNT as straight forward as you think!!! I never want to do another! Look at www.lowrangeoffroad.com He has everything needed to do it all. As for the spring perchs, you have to weld new ones on, each side has to come in 10mm each. As for the front, you are correct, there isnt enough room to move a "new" perch in 10mm.. so you need this plate set up, also sold by lowrange. You will also need a high steer steering kit.. which is also in this pic. Thats only the begining though!! Lots more involved |

110bucks for the front axel perch swap from lowrangeoffroad. what eles is involved? brakes? springs? steering? shocks? also what hilux modle diffs are people using All of the above, plus tailshaft probs, cause lux diffs are in centre, as opposed to the off centered zook transfer, umm, if your going to run lux springs, all the hangers etc will need to be changed, bump stops, may have to move/alter fuel tank, unis will most likely crash cause of the angles, theres heaps!! I thought it would have been a straight forward job, just remember it isnt meant to have lux diffs, so its not easy!! Great conversion once its done though, i gained about 5" width, HEAPS more flex, better/stronger gear.. lots of positives |

While your car is in bits, angle the transfer so that it sits in line with the two diff centres , I run solid mounts and don't have any vibration , get the rear right so the uni's don't bind under full droop and compression and use a cv on the front , as it won't see much work and the angle will be better , less heat to destroy the uni , you will drive this 98% on road if its a daily driver , so getting the rear right is critical , Cheers Paul. |
