Guys Ive been today to look at a 91 Sierra. It looks to me to be in quite good nik. I did the customary look around and crawl underneath to see if I could see any rust, also removed the bungs in the floor to see if there was any rust around those. Could find any. Also removed the door lining above the sills all looked good.

Now it has 200k on the clock will these little 1.3 engines power on much past there without any work? Or should I expect to have to rebuild the engine in the near future? I think im getting it for a good price $3800. And to me it looks a good place to start my transformation.

I plan on a 2' lift kit and new black steel rims with some 31' tyres. Hoping they wont rub.

Other than that will have about $1000 left over to spend.

Sound like Im on the right track? Thanks guys maybe tomorrow I would have fully come across and have my own project!

Any advice before I commit later today would be great

You can't really say how long an engine will last. It depends greatly upon it's service history. 31's will fit with a 2" lift but you will need a bodylift or bumpstop extension to stop them from rubbing during flex.

You'll need to cut the ends of the front chassis crossmember where the bumper mounts to clear 31"s. As Zukmeister suggested you really need a 2" body lift or bumpstop extensions to avoid scrubbing. Some minor hammering of the guards may be required as well.

You WILL need to address your gearing to suit 31" tyres as well otherwise it will be a dog to drive.

$3800 seems a bit much to me to be honest, or maybe that's just cause I only paid $1900 for mine?

I did look at your thread in my rigs. Looks nice and would probably prefer a tin lid like yours. But there just doesn't seem to be any about. This one seems a fair price compared to whats out there and the body seems straight. Can you point me to a nice rust free tin lid????

IMO 31s aren't pushing the limits, but be aware there are a few things to be addressed first otherwise they will actually make your vehicle less capable.

Just to clarify this post a bit, when he says a "virtual" he is referring to a virtual lift which is cutting/chopping the guards to allow enough clearance for the tyres on uptravel.

1ltr transfer at the least for 31's. even then crawling isnt possible.
I've got 31's, 4.16 gears which has the same High range as the 1ltr(if not it felt the same) and 3.9 diffs and its pretty much bang on for road driving.

but when i had the 1.tr transfer is wheeled the hell out of it, and was driveable on road also. just when trying to crawl you burnt the clutch easily.
