I'd just run it through a switch, wouldn't pull enough to warrant a relay?

x2 mines just hooked up to a switch no relay.

Sweet so when I do my rock lights I won't need another relay to add to my shot fight next to the battery :)

only for LEDs, halogen lights should really be on a relay

ok i thought i had it right in my head and now im second guessing myself...

i've got all the wire, connectors and an inline fuse holder (ill put a 10a blade fuse in it cos i've got tons of them). The switch is a standard on/off toggle switch (2 poles).

can someone please show me a diagram of how i run the wires? lol im useless at electrics so the more simpleton the better.

I'm just going to run it straight off the battery so it can be on whenever i want, not on ACC or the reverse switch etc...

so i join my pos and neg on the spotty wires to the cable length of pos & neg, run cable to switch and split to pos and neg on switch, new cable from back of switch - pos to battery and neg to the body?

Yep with a fuse close to the battery

single wire from positive battery terminal into fuse, out of fuse to switch, out of switch to the back and onto the positive wire on light (might be white) then the remaining earth wire from the light atach to teh body or one of the black earth wires already up the back for the tail lights

thats it

Thanks mate, i'll call if it doesnt work haha =) i got a start on it tonight - got the fuse connected to the pos battery terminal and a female connector on that, and the first wire through the firewall with a male connector... will knock the rest out in the morning cos the mozzies were about to carry me away out there!

Post subject:  Re: Wiring a rear spotlight (LED)

im using solder and crimps =)

im crimping the connections then taping them.. anything that i splice (ie: the wire i got the pos off the battery) i've soldered... so the fuse wire is soldered to the battery essentially... after that there will be crimpage, but i'll be taping the connectors as i join them to keep them as protected as possible.

its only a rear light anyway... if it goes bad theres only a couple of joins to check.

get glue shrink and put it over you crimps, theyl never come undone then!

its like heat shrink but has glue in it aswell that melts when u heat it up, makes it 100% water tight, and helps hold everything together! you can get it at jacar!

Solder sucks ballz.

Learn how to crimp properly and use a decent crimper.

I find a combo of things work well. First crimp the wire and have a little wire poking out the end of the crimp, solder that to the crimp and heat shrink it all.

bullshit, you just enjoy sniffing lead fumes...

Post subject:  Re: Wiring a rear spotlight (LED)

Solder has mechanical issues as it creates a solid length of wire (however short) which due to vibration can break. Crimping keeps the wire relatively flexible at the join.

I have decent soldering skills as well but crimp instead. I sometimes crimp but then just put a very small amount of solder on the exposed bit of cable.

Its funny how people think soldering is a better option, any good auto or aircraift electician will tell you that solder is rarely used in automotive, marine or aircraft rewires or accessories.
