Hey all, I am looking at a Sierra VX JX 1996 model on Tuesday afternoon (this will also be my first car), but as keen as I am for it I have heard that because the Sierra has only 101nM of torque @3500 RPM it won't be the fastest vehicle around. So I want to know what my options are for an engine swap. I have heard a Swift GTI engine is the way to go, but I just want to get some other opinions.

Also, what else would I need to do to get a swapped in engine to work at its best? (gearbox, etc). My budget for a new engine is probably $500 (in about 6 months time).

Thanks guys, got big plans for this lil Sierra! Gonna be a BEAST!

plus $500 wont get you very far for an engine conversion

X2. $500 isn't going to cover the cost of the ancillary parts required (fuel system, exhaust, wiring) let alone the cost of the motor.

$1500 to $2k is more realistic.

You can run engine swaps on greens as far as im aware, I spent ages looking through RTA's terrible website to find anything that says otherwise.

Edit: Oops just saw that you're in QLD... Disregard that ^^

Okay, so I'll make it $2000 budget xD

Yeah, I'm in QLD. So I suppose what I'll do to begin with is put a steel bull bar on it (currently has an alloy PoS one), put a roll cage in it, and bigger muds. It's already been raised by 2 inches.

I'm sure there's ways to tune the stock engine to get the most outta it - There must be...

Thanks for the info guys.
