All you need to do is -learn- how to build one. Then have the funds to support the parts. |

That thing you are looking at is a Trail Tough, Trail Slayer equiped car. Here is the link to the build. The kit would set you back $3,795 plus freight and duty, you would need hilux axles, then everything that goes with it. You might get away with it for under $15,000, but that would mean doing alot of work yourself. |

What comps do you want to enter? Find out the required specs before you start building. Have you got a tow rig and trailer? |

Depending on the comp I would agree that you don't need a full blown buggy to run and have a blast. Not only that if you keep it to a 32 inch tire you will have a fairly reliable rig too. One of the major problems with building a comp rig like that is parts and reliability. You go Hilux axles, but they need bigger muddy's....whoops now you broke a stock Hilux axle..Time for Longfield's..Whoops broke a hub, need better hubs and drive slugs...Whoops now my transfer is shagged..time for dual Toyota cases.. What I am saying is a lot of times there is a lot more money and time involved than just the initial build. My kit for 33 inch tires was $1,500 it has cost me at least double(probably quadruple) |

Thanks for all your advise and all the links guys very much appreciated and very helpful. the main reason i wanted a buggy style sierra is cause i don't want a high centre of gravity. as for a tow rig and trailer i got the work truck. And not really wanting a road legal sierra as I've already got one and don't want something i have to worry about police. And the buggys look farkin awesome |

yeah i get what you mean, Mine has a massive height issue and bad centre of gravity, and looks really crap. Road drivable ... Check. Compeditive ... Check. Heaps of fun ... Check.

Having built quite a few comp trucks, including TTC entrants, you basically need three things - Money, Skills and Tools/Equipment. For a basic idea, the more you have of one the less you need of the other too. I.E. if you have lots of money you can just get it built for you, if you have little money but have lots of skills and tools you can build it yourself for cheap. But regardless of what you look at, after you work out your time and budget double both of them and then maybe a bit more and you will get a better idea of what it will cost and how long it will take. But before you start out, look at what you are entering and see what is required. No point building something that you cant bompete with due to class/comp regualtions and requirements. Also - dont get in the logic that becaues its a non rego'd rig you can just do a dodgy job. Nothing worse that someone telling you that its a "comp Truck" to explain why it looks like a peice of crap with shithouse workmanship and quality. Layto.... |
