Hey, replacing the break shoes whilst I am replacing the wheel nearings too.. Anyways The new shoes look identical to the old ones that came out... Fit in good, everything seemed to line up fine.. When it came to putting the drum back on, it wont fit over the break shoes? Ive tried compressing them as much as possible.. Still wont fit... Here are the photos.. Anything wrong here?

Are the shoes centred?? Looks like rhe right one is sitting lower then the left on.. And also is your handbrake adjuster backed off? |

Do you have the right shoes? There's two different size shoes, you may have the big ones. That's ok, I have the smaller ones here

Don't be fooled by looks. Put the old shoe against it and compare. They are identical in every way bar outer diameter |

brake drums sometimes get a lip on them, making it very hard to get them over new brakes. What are your drums like? |

Getting pissed off with rear drum brakes over the years, made it very good value for me to convert to rear discs. |

the rear shoe looks like its being opened by the handbrake lever, pull the handbrake cables off, center the shoes and shove, especially if there is a lip on the drums |

Last picture. The bit with the splines on it. Adjust that all the way in to get the drum on. It will adjust back after a drive around the block. |

I had the same issues before, try adjusting the well, brake adjuster, make sure it's on it's first teeth, then push the slave cyliner in on both sides at the same time. It's just fiddly. I've gotta head out to bunnings in the morning so I'll swing past to see how your getting on with it. |

The RIGHT hand side brake shoe needs to be pushed up a bit. and probable the shoes have a lip on them that will need machining to slip over properly |

Brake places used to make shoes with oversized linings, and turn down the lining to match the drum, after drum was machined. I doubt very much that this still happens in todays mass production methods? But I think he means machine drums? |
