Basically the same as a GV except they are longer and have a different rear diff. Check for timing chain rattle on cold start up. Check gearbox cross member for damage, good indicator if its been offroad. Look inside the rear boot wet cell for rust. Manuals suffer form a heavy and short clutch pedal. Look for signs that the c/case has been apart. there was a factory recall on a gear inside early models. If the case has been apart it most likely has been replaced. Check for oil leaks. front crank case seals leak. Make sure the deflectors are still intact inside the headlights Front seats wear out the side cushions closest to the door, And most will require new suspension bushes at that age. |

Is there a reason you chose an XL7 and not a GV ?... the XL7 has a 2.7L V6, and they can be very thirsty, the mechanic at Suzistore has an XL7, and he says he is lucky to get 400kms from a tank... also, it may be a bit hard for your missus to park in a shopping centre, due to its extra length... imo, maybe it would be better to get a GV...

Still have the rover 7 seats, was one of the reasons for choice. Motor was quiet as a mouse. |

Compared to the 2.5L V6 in the GV its very thirsty... i can get 450kms min being a lead foot, and nearly 500kms taking it easy... and some have got nearly 600kms on long h'way trips...

The minister for finance & war currently drives a series one Discovery, I'm sure she will manage.... oh she said to tell you some about sex & travel....

maybe too late, but i get 550ks a tank easy XL7 with a busted ass o2 sensor, used to get 600+ |
