| Post subject: | so i frucked it. Tara is 2wd again |
So after spending the past 2 weekends on my car and a lot of money. I thought I had her 4wd and running great. 1) cleaned the IAC valve thinking that it was the culprit of my random idle problems. Seemed it was until today. The car will random decide not to idle. When it does idle I will rev it and the revs drop down to stalling point and slowly rise to about 900rpm. However. Sometimes/ most times it just sits on stalling point. I had replaced all filters etc 2) replaced CV shaft due to a broken drivers side CV. Whilst I wad there I greased up wheel bearings and FWH. But today she seemed like she was only in 2wd. I am sure she was in 2wd as I couldn't make it up basic hills. But a mate swore the front wheels were engaged. I am doubting this. So how do I tell if my hubs are engaging. 3) after me getting cranky at my cars inability to climb hills I gave her a rest. I then noticed a drip of oil. Which is weird due to the fact that I had changed a heap of seals to fix leaks. On closer inspection I felt a crack in my front housing It's at the bottom of the front diff pumpkin. Not in the usual stress point in the alloy diffs. It seems there are no scratches where the crack is so impact seems unlikely. What could of caused a crack in the location? |

could it be the housing has twisted and cracked there instead of the more normal place |

Engage both hubs and then crawl under the car and try twisting the front driveshaft. If it turns, one or both hubs aren't locking, if it doesn't, they're working ok |

That's what I thought. But not having 4wd has in my mind eliminated this. I also think that I the fwh'e are engaging. If I turn the CV's whilst in unlocked they spin freely. If I put them in locker they turn a bit and clunk. They feel as though it is working however no drive at all? |

The cars going into 4wd. Selecting low and high. All I'm getting is 2wd low. No funny clunking noises from the front diff so I don't think the centre is blown? |

Mate I will give it a shot. Come to think of it I had problems with the stick when I changed the clutch. The links inside weren't lining properly and couldn't move the stick. Haven't taken it out since |

I just spray it all over the sensor and give it a real good blast to clear all the shit out. It dissolves and doesn't leave a residue. |

Which contact cleaner did ya use? When I do it I use a blue can. Can't think of the name at the moment. But it's about $26 a can. I tried using motor tech one from repco but it feels like it leaves a light residue. |

Co contact cleaner. It's what we use at work. But I used motortech. Maybe that's what's wrong? |

Yeah man. It feels like it leaves a weird film. Have you done the diagnostic pin test? That should tell ya what sensors are fucked. |

Yeah but that shouldn't matter. Do the pin test. My Vectra had a shot Afm the other day. No engine light or warning. Just increased fuel mileage. So I did the pin test and sure enough it read out a Afm code problem. Replaced it now it's all sweet. Pretty sur the engine light doesn't have to be on to warn you there's a problem. Give it a go. Might help? |

I specifically asked 3 guys in the shop whether they were the same. They all said its the exact same. What happened to upselling? So I soak both the plug and the AFM this itself? does it sound like an AFM problem? It seems as soon as I take it offroad it gets worse. I checked the seal around the intake-AFM and it seems nice, tight and unpersished. |

Yeah. Your just trying to clear the grime and motortech contact cleaner off the little sensor Dickie. Don't need to soak it. |

Whipe the oil away & take another pic, or tell me if the damage is "in" like a rock or "out" like something trying to escape the housing... |

This is the weird part. When it happened there was no raised bit. Must be heat expansion. When I turn the front shaft (from t/case to diff? It makes a tiny click and then disappears. It feels smooth. Don't know if this is normal |

by the sounds of it, you've taken a tooth or 2 of the crown wheel & pinion, the broken bit has most likely been forced out by the bits of teeth floating around & getting hit by the crown wheel. |
