For the price you could get a steel exhaust one made up. Would have to be a bit more robust than fibre glass. Just my thoughts though

Was told that they will break alot easier than plastic ones from ARB or TJM... top quality for snorkels...

How many of you damage your snorkle when wheeling. If you crush a fibreglass snorkle that will be the least of your damage problems. And anyone that thinks a PVC down pipe looks good as a snorkle should repaint their car with house paint and a paint brush, it is in the same league. |

my safari ram air scoop says "made in malaysia" which is where this seller is located. My guess is its from the safari factory and looks like a bargain I paid nearly $300, I just bought a led friendly flasher relay from china for $1 + $1.39 postage Repco wanted $28 for the same part number, took 6 weeks to arrive, but works perfectly. I'd take a punt for sure |

Car with house paint hahahahaha. was just a sugestion mate. nice.and cheap to. im not going to put big buck parts on a 3 grand car thats used in the bush. pvc will do the same thing as anythin else was my point. if you want it to look nice and pretty then by all means spend the money. |

I agree with you here 2 stroker the only time Id damage it would be is I rolled or lay it on its side but you would damage a expensive one 2 if you did that I thought about a pvc one but they look cheap and never fit right. I no this ones a cheap nock off but for the price you cant really complain.

I'll throw this out there - Do you need a snorkel? Most over rated mod on 90% of vehicles. How often do you go through bonnet depth water? If you do great go the good, it'll seal and fit better. If no, spend the money on something else that won't put a huge hole in your guard. |

From what I have heard there has been a big legal fight from Safari snorkels end to stop them. they are a cheap plastic snorkel with many little holes in the pore quality plastic (not fibreglass) They are usually the wrong shape so they don't fit the guard properly then the top will not line up with the A pillar, and if you do strain the top to fix it to the pillar it will crack over time. Cheapest way is Exhaust pipe. best way is the real Safari Snorkel |

Nothing wrong with fibre glass. Used to be the strongest material prior to carbon fibre becomming common place. If it is fibre glass i'd be suprised. it'll be very strong / light if it is. Maybe not as flexible as plastic, but fibreglass does flex a bit so it should take a few knocks ok. |

I've also F'd a car from going through a massive puddle and having water forced through my air intake. I think it's pretty safe to say that a snorkel should be one of the first mods on ANY fourbie. A snorkel is for when you've done all the other mods to your vehicle and discover you still have some cash left over. Of course, it does depend on what sort of driving you do, and if water crossings are a feature of your favourite area then a snorkel would have to be on the list, but "first mods on ANY fourbie"? No way. |

So $200 odd for a snorkel or an expensive tow and an engine rebuild? Besides looking cool, they also act as an air ram / cold air induction and by having the snorkel head turned around or with the use of a sock, it wouldn't be sucking in as much dust or dirt into the air intake which can be as damaging as water ingress. |

TF Have to agree with the others. It's a good mod to have but definately not the first. I've been through quite a few creek crossings with water above the tyres and have found the inlet side of my air filter coated in mud so I count myself very lucky. I've also seen a Vitara go though a shallowish puddle too fast and ended up sucking in water which then stalled. It was just bad luck. We had to remove the spark plugs and start the engine to clear out the water. he was very lucky he didn't hydraulic the engine. A snorkel is worthwhile as I think it reduces the chances of bad luck when going through water. |

If you choose to trash through water you'll have other dramas as well. Normally it's through muddy crap which gets through everything or even if it's clean you get the ignition wet and it stalls regardless or drive the fan through the radiator. Many fit snorkels and believe their vehicle to be waterproof. |

Recovery gear, UHF and GPS isn't a mod, it's a necessity. 2" Lift, decent 32-33" tyres and snorkel is all you need for some if not most 4b's to tackle australia's popular destinations like the Cape, Vic high country etc. If you want a play toy to do harder tracks IMO that's when you would look into barwork and traction aids. |

Necessity yes but still a couple of hundred worth and you don't need a snorkel for any of those destinations. More important to stop a too going into your engine bay, they're unpredictable |

How is a GPS a necessity? a good map, maybe a compass and knowing how to use it is a far better tool UHF's are handy but are far from a necessity too. A fair chunk of the high country is driveable on road tires with lockers and a good driver. Cant speak for the cape. Yes you can partly replace a snorkel with a good blind and steady speed. But personally I think they are up there with diff breathers and recovery hooks as basics you should have. |
