Hey all just wondering what oil ya all run in ya transfer case with reduction gearing? Also what oil people run in there gear boxs? Cheers |

More convienient and economical to use the same oil, I use it for my diffs also

Convenient & economical as it may be, you're taking a bit of a chance - differentials usually require an EP or GL-5 oil, some of which can be detrimental to the health of gearbox synchros where a GL-4 is the coorect choice. If you can find an EP or GL-5 that is safe for use with brass & bronze (so called yellow metal friendly), then by all means use it all around - I use Mobil One 75w90 full synth. |

[quote=castrol]The Castrol EPX Gear Oils contain sulphur-phosphorus extreme pressure additives which enable them to withstand high rubbing speeds and tooth pressures.[/quote] Sulphur is one of the additives KNOWN to attach the bronze & brass components, and no where in the data sheet did it mention anything about the oils being safe for use with brass/bronze or yellow metal friendly. From a Mobil One data sheet [quote=Exxon-mobil]Excellent rust, staining and corrosion protection of copper and its alloys[/quote] Brass & bronze are alloys of copper, so Exxon-Mobil are being very specific - corrosion protection of copper and it's alloys. This is the reason I'm using Mobil One - along with the fact that I can feel the difference in the way the transmission shifts. Castrol VMX80 for gearboxes(1.3l) and transfers(0.8l). Now called VMX-M Castrol EPX 80W/90 for differentials. (rear 1.3l) (front 1.5l) http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/castr_au/default.asp |
