Just keep on letting them down until you find the limit. Take a ratchet strap, a big bottle of water(to clean out the bulk of the crap that'l get in there, I wouldn't bother if you're experimenting on sand though) and some detergent with you and you'l get it back on the bead just fine. |

Depends on tyre and wheel type, the amount of time the tyres have been on the rims, driving style, and terrain. Generally, 10 psi should be no problem - look at the number of people who have responded to your post with 10psi as their preferred pressure. I am suspicious as to how many people have aired down until the tyres fell off and then worked up from that point though - I've seen people running 5psi on unbeadlocked rims without a problem, under certain circumstances. With radials in good condition that have been on rims for a while, I would have thought 8psi would be fine too. You can always experiment with sikaflex or mastic to prevent the tyre falling off. I haven't found this to be very effective though. RTV Silicone is NOT effective in holding tyres on beads. There's also two different constructions that are relevant here. Radials have a very stiff tread and soft sidewalls. The minimum pressure in a radial is determined by when the rims will touch the ground. Radial tyres work better the lower you go up until the point the rim starts to hit the ground. The compromise is that when on side angles, the tyre won't have enough lateral stability and will tuck under the car and make the car less stable. Cross ply tyres (Simex, swamper, Comp Trep/Creepy, many 7.50 16 "mine service" tyre tyres) has a flexible tread and a stiff(er) sidewall. Crossply tyres are a bit of a different thing. The tread will start to fold up (crease down the middle) at higher pressure than a radial will normally show problems at. Still, air a cross ply down by eye rather than gauge and you'll be surprised how low you go before they start to bag. The key is to find tyres with low load ratings. You never want anything with a load rating over 'C' or 6 ply on a sierra if you can avoid it. Higher load ratings mean you'll have to go lower with air pressure to get the tyre to perform and that means it's more likely to fall off the bead. Steve. |

In mine, I ran 10-12 to be safe. Never popped a bead and never had anything foreign in the bead giving pressure problems. I never let them down lower to test when the bead pops off. Never needed to, never wanted to. PITA. |

Steve. thanks for the info steve! ive never had to deal with the light weighness (for want of a better word) of a suzuki before so ive always just used 15 as a minimum for beach work with pootrolls and cruzas, the tyres are supposed to be mounted on a bigger rim than they are, so i wasnt sure about how low i could go. judging from what you have said. i plan on running at 12-15 psi. if i have problems with that ill drop to 10 and then if i realy get stuck ill air down to 8 (as a last resort). its mainly for this weekend coz i havent done much wheeling in the sierra yet and havent done any with the 235s (on rims today )
just to describe lancelin to you! generaly for the first 2 kms or so along the coast heading north its chopped up as all hell because everyone thrashes buggys and bikes etc up this far from lancelin towards wedge island. after you get past this its prety smooth sailing, in good conditions you can normally sit on about 100 if you stick down near the water (everyone seams to be scared of the hard ground) the hardest part is crossing the chopped up bit to get down there, as i imagine the case with most beaches to be! (main reason i told u all that was to describe the sort of terain/ driving conditions) cheers for your help SSSIERA (ill carry some aero start just incase |

10psi will be fine on the sand. I run half that on my car. A compressor works fine for putting beads on. |

Xalot Here's the old 8 ply cross ply tires on my LJ. This is with the valve REMOVED and no pressure in them at all!! The worst part is the ride. To be fair, these tyres are ancient and quite solid, they're also retreads. Still proves the point though. EDIT: Just FYI, I ran 5-10 psi in my Toyota Corona paddock basher, I spend years doing jumps, big slides, plenty of 2wd wheeling and the only time I lost a bead was when a stick went through one of the tires. The tyres it had were just street tyres but they were quite wide for the rims. Having seen 235s on Sierra rims I'd say say you could go really low and not have any issues. |
