am i allowed to ask Toyota Tech questions here?

....so ya have to remove the whole hub and wheel bearing to get the bloody CV out eh? That's how it seemed to me. A little bit different to a Sierra but that's ok.

and i got the CV out but the end CV cup kind of fell off the inner axle and i noticed the circlip is still inside the CV cup, which isn't really a problem because i have other spare complete CVs i can use, but just wondering, how are you supposed to get the inner axle in to the CV cup and put the circlip on? Does the CV star & ring bit come out of the cup or something?

see I told you they are shit!!!!!!!!!!

the little clip you are talking about that goes on the end of the inner axle is round and springy like a sierra, you bash the cv over it and it compresses into the groove and pops out to hold the cv to the axle, cept unlike a sierra, they dont work and snap and get in the way, jsut toss it (youll relise why later)

to get a CV out you only need to undo the wheel bearing and pull the hub (after swearing at the callipers) and then you can undo the 700 bolts to get teh stub axle off

to get the CV back in however you ned to at least loosen the swivel bearing caps, cause Toyota decided when they designed it all to make the available gap about 0.5mm too small to sneak the axle back into the diff
otherwise cause you didnt refit the dumb clip to hold the axle to the CV, slip the axle in and then slide the CV onto the axle

OR :)

remove the swivel seals and the swivel bearing caps and pull the whole hub off, youll probably trash the axle seal but its faster :)

yeah i thought about pulling the whole thing off from the swival hubs seals, but thought i'd investigate it through the hub first. , and yeah i noticed the 50 bolts for the stub axle, ohwell, hopefully wont have to do that too often.

I have to remove the diff center from this front housing and swap in air locker hemisphere to this diff center, because the front and rear ratios are different in the diffs i currently have in the red zuke. hopefully this'll be pretty straight forward.

if you leave the swivel hubs on you will need to loosen the bearing caps to get the axles back in

What are you guys doing to have to loosen the swivel bearings as well??
Did you turn the axle so the flat sides on the cv line up with the top and bottom swivel seat? Mine slides in and out easy this way.

only ever dumb enough to do one and thats what I had to do after being told by a heap of hilux gurus, I decided not to go near em after that :)

might only be the short side?

Def don't need to pull the whole hub off. Just fiddle with it and it wil go in.

If you have probelms with the circlip why just remove it and put a tac on the axle to stop it moving.

like dan said, no need to pull kingpins out to do this. though it is quicker to leave the outer circlip off the cv and pull the whole hub setup off in one hit. only need to undo one side to do it
