Cut a long story short, I have taken the tank out of my Sierra LWB while I do some welding, etc. Its seems to be a LWB Vitara Tank from what I can tell so it has the EFi pump, etc etc. Was thinking the fuel in there has been in for a long time so it wouldn't hurt to drain it. Tipped a tiny bit on the driveway and the coulor was very brown and shitty! SO Im thinking it needs to be fully drained and cleaned out. Anyone go any tips?? Take the whole thing apart and wash/hose it out with clean water? |

Pull out the efi pump and inspect the inside. Carefull, the phillips screws are a pita sometimes. Get the screw driver in and tap with a hammer, shocks the screws abit making them easier to undo. If they still don't want to undo, push down on the screwdriver with your weight, And turn with a shifter on the handle. The tank could even be rusty! There are products to fix this, have seen them but can't remember who makes them. If there is no rust, id clean it out with some new fuel to swish around, then empty it out again and repeat until, bam, dirt is gone Change your fuel filter also. |

Google "sloshing sealant" - it's used by the aviation industry to seal fuel tanks - there should be someone in your neck of the woods who uses it. |

POR 15 http://www.por15.com/FUEL-TANK-REPAIR-K ... info/FTRK/ I used years ago on the tank of my 1966 Mk1 Cortina Estate, it's awesome gear & you'll never have a problem again. My tank was one of 9 left in Australia so finding a replacement was out of the question. Never had a problem with tank rust again.

Thanks for the above Ive got the screws out ok, they were not that tight which prob means the person before has had it open. Will look into getting some POR15. What about the pump etc? Is there any cleaning that should be done to it? EG the little filter replaced? Any cautions or you will break it etc? |

i wouldnt worry about the punp. Just make sure the pre filter doova looks clean. If you havent had any dramas with it, it will be fine. |

Ah see thats the catch! I havent had it working, it came with my part finished LWB. But I think the last bloke did have it going at some stage but cant confirm that 100%. Will do some more work on it today hopefully and report back! |
