WWWWWWHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!! Would you possibly want to do that to a Sierra.
For starters, petrol or diesel( Here, just open this can of worms for me...)?
And yes, it's been done, a few older Sierras had these put into them way back in the 80s and 90s.

Oh just I collect and restore GEMINIS. Easy motors to work on and have a heap laying around. I want to go the rodeo 2 liters the same as a Gemini 1.6. I know there was on for sale on eBay that had a Gemi motor in it. Would be good to know what's involved.

Mate unlike the many sceptics who comment from their internet experience, I have assisted with one of these conversion many years ago and that car drove beautifully. Yes there are other conversions that are more straight forward, lighter and perhaps better suited.
But if you have and know Geminis and you have the parts then why not. It is the same as any non Suzuki conversion, use motor and box, fab up engine and gearbox mounts, modify jackshaft to suit, plumb it up to a radiator and the wiring is very basic.
Good luck

Rod who ran Total 4WD in Victoria put a 2.6 carby jackeroo motor and some sort of 4 speed gearbox, I think, in his "rodified" sierra about 10 years ago.
I never saw under the bonnet, but it had plenty of grunt.
Not really my cup of tea, (Gemini, that is) but I am aware that all the Isuzu petrols share the same bell housing pattern.
That being the case, holdenrules, can you confirm that auto Gemini's ran the trimatic?
If that's the case, the scope is there for quite a torquey efi motor with a trimatic behind it for not much money.
I did spend some time looking over a rodeo at the wreckers. They run an AW-4 auto AFAIK...
As I've said before, IMHO engine choice for a sierra isn't the problem, it's the all about the gearbox.
Steve.

I remember Blackduck had one with a Gemini engine back in the '90s, went ok, just seemed to have some sort of hillbilly transfer mount from memory and maybe a hole in the bonnet?

smart car 1.3 diesel! (pretty sure RWD aswell)
or the smart v6 bi turbo! light weight (made by mercedes) and bog stock standard un tuned it would give a sierra the same power to weight ratio as a Porsche 911 Carrera

Yeah Steve you are right the gearbox is a limiting factor when deciding what you can fit. The one that I helped with used a trimatic gemini auto. The reason for the build was that the guy was an old fella that loved his Sierra and used it for beach fishing but after a knee replacement had no strength in his left leg for even a light Suzuki clutch.
Believe it or not my sister once bought a tin top Sierra with an EFI Camira engine and drove it around all over the state for about a year before trading it on a Feroza.

In any case, the Smart Diesel is on 800cc Triple with 30Kw. The V6? Quote: Ten cars were built and presented at the Castle Solitude. They are not available for sale and are not even allowed to be driven on the public roads in Germany. Some of Mercedes' race drivers, like Markus Winkelhock, drove guests around the event's race track.
Yes, they are RWD, but using a transaxle - the engine is in the rear. The gearbox is no more suitable for use in a sierra than a FWD gearbox.
Can we keep this thread to Isuzu motor/gearbox tech only?
Steve.

I know a guy fitted one with a jackaroo box and transfer, went really fast but low range was a struggle
arent the manifolds the other way around? I remember it needed a bodylift and tunnel smashing (was a 1 litre)

Yes the GEMINIS do use the good old 3 speed trimatic. I would most likely go the 5 speed Gemini manual either behind the 2.0 or 1.8. I had a measure a while ago when I thought about it and it would work without having to move the transfer at all. Just customize engine mounts and same with gearbox. The thing I like about these engines is reliability and they can handle a floging. To me I would rather a Gemini engine over a g16b as I have had both. I'll see how I go may even do a write up,

A write up would be awesome!! Even just with the basic stuff of a few photo's of engine and gearbox mounts.

Wonder whether it's possible to use a gemini trimatic behind an earlyish turbo isuzu diesel to put together a (fairly) cheap auto/turbodiesel package?
I know is would be dumb and heavy but at least it might not be dumb, heavy and $1million
Steve.

The Diesels that came out in GEMINIS were never turbo from stock. Most owns put a turbo on them because of them being so gutless. To me them diesels are to old and hard to come by. The only reason I would go the petrol is because of the price of them and how easy parts are to get for them. You can buy off the shelf parts for then turbo manifolds the works. They are also good on fuel. Manifolds are on the same side as a Sierra. length for the radiator to fit and tunnel size will be the down fall.

Yes, I'm aware of that. My understanding though is that all the isuzu car 4cyl engines have the same Bellhousing bolt pattern, which then opens up the possibility of using rodeo/jackeroo engines (petrol/diesel) front of a Gemini trimatic for a short, powerful and cheap package.
I'm not personally that interested, but it's an interesting alternative to CA/4AGE swaps, especially taking into account the gearbox issues with the 4A

Yer mate they all have the same bell housing so would be good even if you wanted to put the 2.6 fuel injected rodeo motor in it or the rodeo diesel engines. Would defiantly be cheaper than other vitara engines etc

one of the guys i work with is currently fitting a g200 (2.0L petrol gemini engine) in his sierra. has had a lot of custom work done, engine mounts, gear box and transfer mounts. his only issue is the wiring and some vacuum hoses.
ill ask him tomorrow what box he is running.
also know of a guy who has a lotus engine in a stock sierra ahah,

You can get Isuzu reduction gears for the rodeo/jackeroo transfers.

yeah thought my input could help if any1 is serious about doing it...those wires werent connected haha my issue has always been time (and motorvation) but now she runs, so am feeling a bit more motivated. also the electronic ignition wasnt quite right. i just need to fix a couple of leaks and get better suited heater hoses, better radiator spacers and convert back to sierra alternator as they have an internal inhibitor, which is what i require (and have suzi alts laying around). Hook up the exhaust and do the RHS gearbox mount as that one is a lil tricky, finish the gearstick location mods an a bunch of other shit i would like to re-do a bit better as i initially was aiming to get this done in about 2 weeks and didnt take the extra time i would have liked too...

digging up a old thread......i specialise in gemini's (Gemwreck) and i have sold a few diesel 4fb1's to zook guys over the years, some have even used the front springs (!) dunno how they made that work tho, one bloke rocked up in a sierra with a FACTORY turbo diesel gemini engine in it, these were a jap spec motor and was the first production diesel engine in a passenger car to have a ecu They are an awesome engine but heavy compared to the original zook ones, we are looking for a zook now to build up into a semi comp rig for the missus, and i was thinking that if these guys could easily fit a gemini diesel engine then there is no reason why i could not fit my drag gems DOHC 2000cc engine into one just as easy, this motor has a fair bit more torque and power than even a 1.6 swap, but it looks like there is more to it....... i will keep reading the posts and go from there BTW gemini na diesels are not hard to find, i think i got about 7 of them last count.... cheers

I had a TE back in the day with G200 block with Piazza injection and a diesel box. was pulling 130hp atw and made xr6's look slow. Did the best burnouts aswell. Would make a good engine for a zook i think so long as it was injected.

one of the biggest benifits would be all the engine mods that the gemini boys have done , i had 1 of these engines in a tf rodeo and it was awsome but a worked 1 would be awsome
