Ok...
1st off .. What car is it? What engine is in it? Efi or carby

Check that you, have a strong spark at the leads, if you dont check for it at the coil lead on the dizzy (assuming you have a car with a dizzy)
Check for fuel (either at the carby or fuel rail) if not start tracing it back. Once again the method will change from efi to carby cars

If both of these are ok then next would be to check for compression.
if there Is no or low compression then you have to figure out why..

But lets start to see what you have and dint have.

It sounds like it is turning over, going by your post,

So
Car turns over ??
Car has fuel in it (i am assuming you just mean in the tank and have not looked for whether it is up at the carby/injector rail)
New pkugs fitted (500klms ago)

if she turns over, ya starter motor is good, you need to do the above to isolate if its a spark or fuel problem, than you can go from there.

Yeh.. Fuel wont come out of that hose till engine is turning as it is a mechanical pump which is run off the camshaft.

At what point did u check for spark? At a spark plug lead or coil lead?

If you turn the key, which makes the starter motor work, which turns the motor over which activates the mechanical fuel pump, fuel will come out. If thats not happening there's your problem.
