Hey all, the missus just sold her 00' model 420 grand vitara and is undecided on a new car. I have suggested a new jimny as an option, as she wants something to take the surfboards up the beach etc. Can anyone throw some opinions of these little rigs up here?? I personally love the look of these little cars and think it would suit the missus well. The only things I have gripes about are the power - will a slightly tweaked M13A have enough poke on the highway etc? Also the grand vitara was stupidly twitchy on the road - and i did not like that one bit. Any input would be much appreciated guys/girls - thank you in advance. Thanks. |

Buy a Forester. Power, ride and handling are all inferior to the GV. Steve. |

If you think the vitara was twitchy then you won't like the jimny. I don't like my wife driving the jimny. No the M13A does not have enough poke on the highway. any hills and you will be the slowest vehicle. But hey, it's a great car. After pulling mine to bits at the weekend I can honestly say they are built like a brick sh*t -house even though the look a bit flimsy until you start trying to dismantal one. |

Thanks, keep the comments coming. Would have to have a set of headers and exhaust, with snorkel etc |

Would have to have a set of headers and exhaust, with snorkel etc That'll get you about 3-5bhp extra it might still struggle. They are ok around town where you can just hold it in gear longer, but when you get on the freeway you just want to leave it in top gear and it kinda struggles on the hills. I think 0-100kph is about 16 seconds stock. So not the slowest car money can buy, but almost. |

What about a new 2 door GV - 2.4L ..... That will be great on the free way and the beach. |

Obviously a new GV had been ruled out (?) so I was suggesting other road-biased alternatives. Steve. |

I guess i have never driven many fast cars... but I always thought the Jimny could easily keep up with freeway traffic... but yes the jimny isn't the most stable car on the road. take one for a dive =] |

Steve. I must be reading it wrong..... that happens........ But I'm a big fan of the forester, nice to drive & if you get a looked after one they are stupidly reliable... Wait..... BUY A SUZUKI!!!! |

So compared to the op's previous '00 model GV I doubt the jim would be more stable and less twitchy on road. |

Which was my point. Unless the OP's wife wanted more off road capability (and even that's debatable) a Jimny would be a poor choice. Steve. |
