Hi all, I have a 08 1.9 Turbo Diesel Grand Vitara its started overheating on the freeway, it does not do it around town at all. It does it randomly while on freeway temp will rise and aircond cuts out, then as you slow the temp gauge will drop aircond starts again, keep driving temp goes right up stays up aircond cuts out pull over temp drops down again ac works again drive off all fine. also the thermo comes on when car is turned off and the coolant constantly circulats through the overflow bottle. We did the thermostat so its not that, has anyone had this problem or have any ideas??? |

If you mix coolant your pretty much buggerd after that potential to blow up your engine flush your radiator and heating system and clean it all and try again with new water coolant and stick to one in the future. all I use is castrol in both my cars can't get mixed up in the future then and I always have a spare bottle laying around |

any black smoke under power? diesels get hot when they overfuel. if you didnt flush the cooling system when you did the thermostat do it now, was it overheating before the new thermostat? could it be in upside down? as above dont mix coolants. |

My petrol Vitara was doing similar. Mine was a faulty viscous fan hub. Yours is not very old, but worth a look, assuming it has the same type of fan. |
