Looking at doing a conversion soon into my sierra, how great are the real word power differences with thesr motors? Im leaning toward the carby g16a because it seems a simple swap, or id the efi thing a bit more simple than it looks?

Im more curious about power delivery while driving mainly, tyre sizes etc

Can i still fun my 1.3 inlet manifold and carby on the g16a or should i leave the factory stuff on it?

Any info/tips would be great

There is a big difference to these motors, the responsiveness of the g16b is a cut above the g16a.
I put a g16a in my sierra and it was good improvement over the 1.3, but when i bought a lwb g16b vitara with double the kilometres the g16a had it still shit all over the g16a.
And the lwb was heavier aswell.

If i was in the position to be doing a conversion again, a g16b would be done without hesitation.

The g16a is an easier swap, but for a bit more work i think g16b pays for itself easily.

IMHO don't bother with the A. You'll still wish you had injection- cut out the middleman and go straight for the B.

Yeah im just worried about all the efi wiring etc i would need a good auto sparky i assume
This motor is still in the car so it would make sense to get the whole wiring loom?

Any other important bits i should grab while im at it?

go the 'B' - even if you need to have the loom made by an auto electrician, its worth the extra cost.

Don't just go any B . Consider going for the crank fire B out of the last G16B version. That way you can say goodbye to the dizzy and also as far as I know the computer that came with those can are Flashable.

When you go from carb to EFI you may as well try get this motor and you don't even need to consider rebuilding those as they are pretty young engines.

Looking back now, for me it would have been thousands cheaper going this way.

yeh i agree with chop about the G16B being alot quicker i got 2 vitaras one 2 door and the other lwb and the swb is not standard engine wise and the lwb will take off on it pretty quickly
