Apart from the obvious, is it the water pump wrong or the tensioner bearing? G16B 16 valve motor

You mean because the other side of the belt is touching this side?

It looks ok to me...

Hint - change the timing belt and water pump at the same time...

Probably the same as the G13... Looks just like my one, in my 1300... I reckon the tensioner is right, what do you think the problem is with the pictures?

Post subject:  Re: What is wrong with this picture??

ok so I looked at some pics, yes I am on drugs and thats how the tensioner is

are the pulleys on properly? is the belt rubbing on teh cover?

I wonder if the belt would run out there if both pulleys were on back to front

Post subject:  Re: What is wrong with this picture??

Could the bearing be on back to front? It looks like it has been like this for a while...

Post subject:  Re: What is wrong with this picture??

Looks like it has done a fair bit of running like this alright. I'm suprised the belt hasn't 'walked' off the pulley. You might be right Lump, the bearing could be on backwards. I just pulled it all off as I'm replacing belt, bearing and water pump.
I'm guessing the apprentice did this one

I had it stuck in my head that 16 valve was twin cam for some reason, even though I knew it only had one cam.... must be the drugs

Post subject:  Re: What is wrong with this picture??

ooo now I looked at the pics properly

looks like the slot for the adjusting bolt thingo doesnt go round far enough, I once saw a 1.3 that it went too far so perhaps its a 1.3 one?

Author:  Scrawny [ Sat Sep 06, 2008 1:23 am ]
Post subject:  Re: What is wrong with this picture??

There was absolutely no adjustment for the belt, the tensioner wouldn't move to allow slack. You may be right Royce.

Sorry, no front on pics

Ah i see the problem now...

Yeah looks totally different to the 1.3 version i have, but remember there is another 1.3 motor, with a different water pump (dont know the number), maybe it is from one of those.

Thanks Chris,

mine is definately a G13 tensioner then. They had the spring horizontal and had moved the screw that secures the spring end to the hole you can see straight out from the bearing.
I've only just done a G13 timing belt and I thought this tensioner looked the same.

Post subject:  Re: What is wrong with this picture??

isnt there 2 different thinkness timing belts, maybe u have everything to suit the thicker belt bar the tensioner bearing??

Author:  royce [ Sat Sep 06, 2008 1:47 am ]
Post subject:  Re: What is wrong with this picture??

there is 2 different tooth profiles, but timing belts are a bit universal so its possible somebody could get one too long or short or wide that still fit
