Put my GV steel diff in last night. All looks the goods but when you try and drive it, its death.

Basically the car deicides to turn to the leftt. Once it starts turning that way you can get it back. It just fights against you. However, for a split second its fine.
Put the locker in and both wheels seem to engage.

There is also a rotational thump when your driving straight or turning.

My guess is CV as it doesn't seem like its sitting in the diff properly. Atari said there are issues with CV's popping out as they are about 5mm too long for the circlip to lock in.however this is doing it in 2wd and 4wd.

I need my car back ASAP :(

Did you fit the GV axle support bush in correctly?
That could drag and thump, if its in wrong.

PS. My support bush was a bit squeaky and grabby till it bedded in.

And my locker took time to free up and bed in, too

It's driven on dirt with both hubs locked and unlocked. Locker unlocked aswell.
I have to really fight it to turn right. But sometimes it does it fine.

Bush went in from the outside like you said chris so its all good.

CV slides all the way into the diff. It's like the outer CV is locking up

Sounds like your its your just your locker or your diff has been set up wrong

Post subject:  Re: what have i done?

did you check the diff ratio before sending it all off to be built?

Post subject:  Re: what have i done?

But the thing is its playing up without hubs locked. It's on dry steer too. Not just whilst driving. It feels kind of like when I had a broken CV that was affecting ny steering but 50 times worse

Your hubs definitely unlocking properly? Seems bloody strange for those kind of symptoms to happen without the hubs locked in.

Ok. No I have stopped sooking. I took it for a decent drive.

Works fine with hubs unlocked. Works fine with hubs locked. But with locker in its a shit storm. I heard front lockers ruin your steering but this seems crazy

Mind you this was tested on road.

Sorry for bot testing properly.

so you're driving around in 4wd with the locker in on the tarmac?

is that WITH the locker engaged?

if yes, it will behave like a welded diff.

Yes. This is true

Mind my ignorance. I am new to 4wd and have no idea about them

sounds like it's functioning as per normal, i only use mine when i know i'll be lifting the front wheels.

now can you tell me what "egoism" is.

Egoism is the result of a noob being frustrated and speed typing trying to figure out his car.

From what you have described is just how a GV/Vit handels when the front diff is locked. Just get over it and enjoy the added ability of having a front locker.

Phewww! The hole point of this thread was because i for my car out of the shed. Had been playing with the locker not realising id left it on and had a panic attack because it wouldn't steer.

Being new. To 4x4ing, I had no idea about lockers :(

wheel bearings!.....maybe u would check for play.

p.s why did you go front locker? or was it only done because the diff was out anyways?

Diff was out and needed to be pulled apart anyway. so I got it done at the same time.

With the wheel bearing lock nut thingo (ring with holes in it) is it possible that I have over tightened it.

It was fine before I pulled it apart.

Turns out I didn't tighten them up. Note to self, don't rush things as you forget things lol
