have any of you guys with non-suzuki engine conversions had the problem of the head sitting higher than the radiator filler. i want to eliminate air pockets in the head and using something like this will allow me to retain the factory bonnet latch. any issues ?

This will indeed do what you want to achieve, but you probably want one that is better made and looks like this:
