autobahn malaga are my fav mechanics and heap to

I found a place that sells standard clutches for $150 so I think I might do that... It's almost too cheap to pass. I'm considering tackling it myself as well... What's your opinion?

I could be wrong and I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction, but I'm under the impression that you are supposed to get the flywheel machined if you're fitting a brand new clutch, check some older threads on it first though, but if you have an alternate mode of transport you could pull the old clutch and flywheel, get the wheel machined and get an identical new clutch (there seems to be a few different types) get the bits back and put it all back together.

I do know a lot here say you don't need to worry about the machining, it's just what I remember reading as being a requirement.

the flywheel only needs to be machined if its badly groved or has lots of hot spots. if the surface is flat and doesnt have any lip in it (formed by pressure plate wearing on flywheel) and is nice and shinny then i wouldnt.

i didnt and mine has lasted a good 12 months of hardish driving.

u can use coarse sandpaper to rough it up a bit if your a tightass

I was out on the beach and got pretty stuck. I was slowly moving though so I just kept my foot on the accelerator revving at 3000 rpm in first gear. I got out of the bog and drove up the beach a bit more, all was fine. I turned the car off to have a coldy, and when I started it an hour later, it wouldn't move. The engine starts and I put it into gear but the car won't move forward or backwards unless it's at 7000 rpm and even then it moves at 2kms an hour. When I got the car the mechanic said it only had 6 months left in the clutch, so I'm assumin my clutch has gone. But I just wanna make sure it is the clutch before I fork out $300 odd bucks. Is there anything else it could be? Cheers fellas

surely you could smell the clutch though? when i had similar happen years ago on the beach (yes, i drove on the beach!) it smoked right up and filled the cab while i was driving along! haha even once it cooled down and i did some clutchless gearing to get a bit futher along, it still slipped and stunk.

Alright cheers guys, yeah I just didn't wanna go put a new clutch in a realize It wasn't the problem! Is the best place to get a clutch just from suzistore? And what about doing the clutch, is it a hard job? Any special tools needed?? I'm new to this working on my own car thing and anything slightly mechanical freaks me out abit

suzistore will do a great job and turn it around fast, but they wont be the cheapest place to have it done. What suburb are you in? People in here live all over perth so someone will be able to recommend another shop im sure. While you're doing the clutch though, it might be a good idea to check out the seals (gearbox in and out and rear main) - ONLY USE GENUINE SEALS! (suzistore).

blocked carby? mine does that when the carby is blocked....take the air cleaner doover off the top of the carby.... give it a million revs and stick ya hand over it...will have crap all over ya hands....wack everything back on....good as gold!

It's not engaging gears, it's like the clutch is permanately on or something. I can push the shifter into place and all but it just doesn't do anything when I rev it. And I could smell burning clutch, but it wasn't as serve as aliens car filling up with smoke! And I'm in guildford, so I'm right near suzistore in midland

u can get a h/d clutch fom the suzuki shop (cannington), there about the cheapest around for clutches and then get autobahn to fit it, or even suzistore should do it reas cheap if u supply the clutch

I just rang up and asked and I can get the machined flywheel for $40 and the spiggot bearing for $4, so all up it's $194... That's pretty cheap right? Cheers

not bad price at all... you could call "Perth Brake & Clutch" in Malaga - ask for Joe and see what price he can do you on it all... If you're going past suzistore or suzukishop, a jimny clutch fits sierra and has a higher clamping pressure than a standard sierra clutch =) my current clutch is a jimny one that came out of a wreck with about 15,000km on it =D Sean at suzistore reckons the jimny clutch is the same pressure as a heavy duty sierra one, and that the parts books for jimny use the same model number as standard sierra - so any aftermarket jimny clutch actually has a lower pressure than its factory fitment.

if u are running larger than standard tyres or plan to at some stage in the future then a heavy duty clutch for an extra $50 seems a bit silly to pass up on

Before ya get too carried away. Have ya checked ya clutch cable? Make sure it's not stretched or fucked? I'd check that first before replacing a whole clutch.

I think you misunderstand the reason for machining. Like brakes, the clutch works on friction. You don't want a 'nice shiney surface', you want a rough surface that allows the friction material to bite into. It also needs to be flat and uniform. Yes, you can get away without machining but it's less than ideal, especially on larger vehicles.

While it's all apart, do it right the first time, Get it machined. It will prevent any shudder and potentially lengthen the life of the clutch.
