Ok so I have a 1990 Sierra, which had some major Carby issues. Unfortunatly I'm no mechanic and don't know enough about carbys to fix it myself. I took it to what I now know is the worlds most incompetent mechanic. He suggested I get a Carby off a 1990 barina ( pretty much the same engine) but it turns out he just bolted it on and gave it back. Any way long story short it now smells like its got far to much fuel, idols at 900 when cold and 1500 when warm and I went to rainbow with another zook. We got half way home and he fueled up with 17l and mine took 28l Same wheels (31s) same engine ect. Any theory's?? |

Before you go blaming the carby, you can't really compare the fuel economy between 2 cars and 2 different drivers. Eg you could have a heavier right foot, bad gear selections, over revving, heaps of driver factors but also different plugs, leads, engine age. Yes the carby might not be right but don't rely on your mates fuel usage for comparison. |

Sounds like your choke is stuck on. How old/blocked up is your air filter? |

I wouldn't be surprised if air filter is the stock filter. And the only difference in driving I think was I had to have my foot flat to keep up speed a lot more then he did. Also don't know if it helps but I also find that it's very slugish when I try to increase speed slowly but it seems ok if I put my foot flat. It will just miss once or twice then pick up quickly. |
