g13bb bolts straight in you call qld transport up and change the engin number single point fuel injection is the excact same motor and you dont need it and p platers cant have ls1 and ls3 mod plates engine swaps and turbos and superchargers g13bb is the same block and everything ive been down this road i have a 4age in on my p's mod plated been pulled over by cops heaps and they never look under the bonnet unless your doing something stupid its a small 4wd not a commodore your not doing skids and hooning in it

G13bb is a lot of work with all the extra wiring but a nice upgrade. If you can afford to have it off the road for a while and also happy to do most, if not all, of the work yourself then go for it.
If you need the car then just get a rebuilt motor and do the swap. Don't bother with a weber, just get the standard one rebuilt also but get some bigger jets fitted.

As far as i know the 13bb is just an engine number swap. no mod plateBest to confirm this with DOT though

need a new motor for a sierra sj50. to start off with the car needs to be qld P plate legal, so that puts out 1.6L efi conversion. im thinking of doing a hybrid 1.3L bottom end with 1.6L head with a webber. is this worth it for power gain and the cost of it? or just put in a reconditioned 1.3L with a webber? hoping to get the motor done by the end of this month. thanks Doug. so you guys are saying a G13BB is P plate legal in QLD ? yes or no? the hybrid is the time, cost and effort for the extra power? yes or no?

what about g13bb jimny motor? then you get EFI goodness but retain the same capacity? later on you can chuck a g16b bottom end in for more power too.

can you not argue its the same engine but with better emissions cos of the EFI? surely swapping a 1.3 for a 1.3 from the same manufacturer with a near identical engine number is possible? or are the laws really that shithouse now?

^^ my point exactly... i changed from g16a to g16b by doing an engine number swap... i told them it was a different motor and was now EFI not carby etc and they refused to inspect it and just changed the numbers on my papers. the egineering papers and permits all just refer to a "1.6L engine" and have a number - it says nothing about the make/model/fuel delivery system/power figures.

Do some research/asking at DOT. I would say G13bb would be legal for P's but don't take my word for it.

Dont say your upgrading to a more powerful motor. ask them, if your swapping the motor you have, for a more modern motor but its of the same series, i.e g13b > g13bb if you need to mod plate it or just get the engine number changed. if they say your cool to do it, ask them if there is any way to get it in writing.

i got mine in writing by applying for an engine number change to DoT... you just send off paperwork describing the two motors and leave the bits about power output blank... fill in engine numbers and capacities and note old is carby and new is EFI... they should write you back approving the mod pending an inspection (they just check the engine mounts look professionally done and no oil leaks, and confirm the new engine number).
