The only way to get a 5 speed into it is to do a 4/5 speed hybrid.

Have a read here

think you can use a maruti 5 speed, if you also use the maruti 1.0 motor.

But have not done it,
is just hearsay.

You are on Australia's most popular suzuki forum, have a question answered quickly and correctly and reply with

Good luck with that search mate.

On top of the correct answer you have already received:

Chris - are you sure there is such a thing as a Maruti 5 speed (here in Australia?) I thought they were 4 speed but you could make a hybrid as per late suzuki 1.0 litres?

dilby, you may already have a "type 3" 1.0 litre than can be made into a hybrid. Otherwise, start searching for a complete 1.0 litre super carry van as these were factory 5 speed. They aren't easy to find though and there is still adaption work that needs to be done. I think having to buy a whole car rates as more effort than building a hybrid gearbox.

Oh, and are you sure your car could even pull 5th gear? Suzuki left them 4 speed for a reason. you would be far better to experiment first by putting 20% bigger tyres on the rear and going for a quick run down the highway. Bet you can't get into 4th gear on the flat. That's the same as trying to drive in 5th with whatever tyres you have on now.

Steve.

Not entirely sure why I think that, could be an urban myth.
Next moment of boredom I'll look it up

Yeah Chris, I wrecked a maruti a couple of years back that was a 5 speed. However you don't have to use a maruti 1litre engine as the 1litre blocks are all the same. Carry 5speeds also need modification because in a carry van the engine lays over to clear the floor and so the gearbox bellhousing is rotated so the gearstick is on the top, if you bolt it in a sierra the gearstick would come out the side of the tunnel. Besides it is also a linkage gearbox with rails to a remote shifter it is not a top loader like a sierra.

See Benchai's gearbox post he has just made a 5 speed hybrid for his 1litre ute and is very happy wth the result.
