Good evening Auszookers, please bare with me as I explain abit =)

Some know but most don't, I bought Joshys (31zook) LWB zuky.

While 31zook has been helpful with questions I'm after a few more opinions.
The zuk is on hilux diffs and 36 swampers, when I picked it up it drove home sweet, got it home checked fluids and went 4x4ing.
Let the tyres down to around the 10psi mark, wheeled the arvo and pumped the tyres up to 24psi, got back out on the road and was all good driving fine, Can get up to 80 no problems any after the unbalanced swampers start playing their part - thats fine.

After about 10 minutes of driving I came up to an intersection gave way then went to take off again and got a really violent head shake, from about 5-40km/h, hard brake and pull over and start again, but it keeps repeating.
Pull over on the side of the road and I rotated the tie rod and kinda pulled on it and started driving again fine.

Next day went on a wheeling trip, pulled into BP to fuel up and also pumped tyres up to 28psi, drove an easy 20k's with no issues. Met up with the fellas and as we got to the bush it started to do the very violent head shake, got into bush and since we were only on fire trails for abit didn't worry about it.

Was all good for the rest of the day then on the way home it started again, got out rotated tie rod and gave the right wheel a wobble and it drove fine for another 10k's then hit a shocking bump and it started again and as i was only 5 minutes from home I just crawled home.

Couple days later went bush again, done it all the way there, let the tyres down for wheeling and drove home on 8psi and didn't seem to do it.

Now the question is what can be the reasons for this?
I'm going to order an after market tie rod with new tie rod ends hopefully this week, as the standard lux was looks like a banana (was like that when I bought it) but is that all I need to order?

I know the unbalanced swampers don't help but why do they drive fine but then start playing up?

Search for "Death wobble" and start working through everything that's mentioned. Alignment and new tie rod ends might fix it, if not, keep working through everything else.

DONT put a new steering damper on it until you have fixed the death wobble.

It's weird seeing my lwb in someone else's avatar :lol:

Sorry to here your bad luck, I would do the king pins, then a new tie rod, then balance the tyres. I had one case of the shakes and rotated my tyres and it was fixed, and I'm pretty sure Joshy cheers had no issues either.

Also just check the nut on top of the cressida box is adjusted right, I think I had to adjust it once..... I can come over Wednesday arvo if you want.....

I bent the tie rod on my much smaller (on 31's) zook. Anyway after bending it I wound it out to get it back to the right amount of toe. Every once in a while I'd go over a bump, usually when cornering, and it would get this horrible head shake like what you describe. Mine was undrivable once it started though. I had to slow down to a stop and then I could head off again right as rain. I worked out that when I was hitting these bumps it put the tie rod in compression bending it like a spring. The rod then sprung back, then into compression again, then sprung back. You get the picture. Basically the tie rod was getting slightly shorter then slightly longer so the tyres were toing in then out at a rapid rate. Maybe that's your issue only yours is so bad its slightly bending the rod more every time. As a result you have to get out and readjust the toe before you can get going again.

Toyota tierods are well known for bending and putting wheel alignment out. Get a new one made up stronger..

Suzuki draglinks are well known for bending under hard driving. Get a straight one, Reinforce it.

Those diffs were fine for me you do have a bent tre on the diff end of the draglink and a bent tierod unless 31zook fixed them but I know he hadn't last I spoke to him :helloo:

Edit: it has a snake racing draglink designed for Suzuki diffs :crazy:

That does make sense, and basically sounds the same!

Looking at getting a Overkill one with 80series tierods.

I noticed that bent tie rod on the diff end, Is that ment to be like that?
The banana is straighter then the tie rod at the moment haha.




I think I'll order a new tie rod with new tie rod ends and get a wheel allignment and see how it is.

Heres a funny story.

I was asked the other day by a friend how a friend of theirs with a TJ Wrangler might fix a death wobble that just appeared, whilst 1000km from home as they need to get home and dont have a lot of time or funds to be stuffing around with workshops throwing stuff at it.

Now I dont know a lot about Jeeps so suggested loosen and tighten everything and see what happens and check that no bushes looked broken, afterall it jsut drove 1000km down there with no issue

That didnt fix it so after a google as to whast teh suspension looked like I noticed they have a damper in a useful spot, so I told him to replace it, what do you know, wobble gone

No ones really got back to him =p
But I've read a few different people talking about it but Jez him self hasnt heard much back haha.

I won't be attending, as not keen on driving on public holiday.
