| Post subject: | Stuffed Crankshaft Keyway on G16B MPFI - the options? |
I bought a LWB Vitara recently in non-going condition (G16B 16V MPFI). I was told the "keyway" was stuffed. Sure enough, the small cambelt drive sprocket on the end of the crankshaft is floating around - This may have been casued by a non existant retaining bolt on the end of the crankshaft - well, the bolt's there, just no head on the bolt - I guess it will come out, or I drill it out.
I'm wondering what my options are here - I want a premanent fix. Here are some possibilities: 1. secondhand crankshaft - where do I get one? How much? 2. re-key the crankshaft shaft on the opposite side (ie. 180 degress out) - problem here is that a new sprocket will probably be just loose enough to casue a problem fairly soon. 3. Sleeve the end of the crankshaft? Any suggestions? |

Get it welded up and a new keyway machined into it or find a good replacement crank. |

x 2 The above is quite simple for a engine mob. If you can pull it out yourself it will be much cheaper for yourself too. |

I recently had a problem such as this, it was fixed with a speedy sleeve around the crank snout and a hole drilled @ 180 degrees to the allen slot and a grub screw fitted with some thread lock and we have had no problem since. |
