Will do an engine oil and filter change soon and wanted to ask what everyone runs and recommends?

penrite 15-40 change every 5k filter every 10k
100ml of kero 10 min before a change every 50k

How long is a piece of string? Get the best you can afford, or I'd go with the OME oil. I think Suzuki are partnered with MOTUL, so I'd go with that. Not sure if Suzuki rebrand it with their own label like a few other manufacturers do. I went in a couple of local traders recently, one brand specified Fully synthetic, another specified Semi-synthetic, so only way to be sure is go with the original equipment lubrication.

Yes it's a pretty open ended question but just curious. Do you all run fully synthetic or semi?

My GTi motor only likes Castrol, any other brand and the lifters tick before 5000km. I use magnetic cause the right viscosity edge is $75 a bottle!

Fully synthetic 5w-40 From Cadillac oils in brisbane. In my opinion some pretty awesome oil and no ticking from the lifters :)

For what car, how old is the engine, what is the climate like where you live etcetc... way to many variables and not enough info!

For my Legnum: ULX110 and filter every 5k. Costs $78 for oil and filter, so around $65 for the oil.
For my Vitara: Usually Penrite around the 20W40 or something close. It's an old engine (200k) so not super critical. Burns a bit, so nothing expensive. Oil and filter changed every 10k.

Trying Valvoline 15W40 (engine armour?) semi synthetic,
in my Vit, so far so good.
Can't afford the best, so semi is a reasonable compromise.
Engine is a low K import

Post subject:  Re: What engine oil do you use?

In the GV, i use Valvoline Durablend, for 4WD's, its a 10W40 SemiSynth, its a mid range oil, about $45 for 5L, keeps the timing chain quiet !
And i use Nulon Engine Flush before every oil change, at 3months, or 5000kms, which ever occurs first... :D

20w40 is to thick for a Suzuki motor IMO, just because a motor is old doesn't mean the requirements for lubrication change. The oil galleries on a Suzuki are tiny, hence thick oils cause lifter tick

Post subject:  Re: What engine oil do you use?

I uses Valvoline engine Armour 15-40. I don't understand why people spend such big money on fully synthetic oils and stuff like that on a 1.3 - 1.6 liter engine. It's not like zooks have a high performance engine and they aren't exactly new technology either.

X 2
20W40 is too thick, and the oil takes longer to get to vital engine components, until its warm...

Seeing as oil is Vital to the engine, i only want the best for mine that i can afford, it helps the engine last longer, but it comes down to what you can afoord... actually, i think the 1,3 and 1.6 are high performance engines, they have to be to sit on 5000rpm plus when offroad... and i used to drive my 1L, 1.3L, and 1.6L like a performance engine, hehe...

I am using a thicker oil so it doesn't burn so much a its tired. Once rebuilt i will be using a much better oil. I get no lifter or chain noise at all.

250,000km motor. i run half a litre of diesel oil for a day or two beforehand then use penrite 15w. also while im draining the oil when its almost empty i tip 400ml of clean oil in while the drain bung is still out to flush out that last bit of old oil.

Post subject:  Re: What engine oil do you use?

motul turbolite 4100 15w40

308000km no smoke, uses none, changed every 10k ish, sometimes 8, sometimes 12

I would rather put expensive oil in and run it for its full service interval than cheaper stuff more often and its heaps better than rebuilding it at any amount of km

I've only been using Penrite for over 20 years. A proper warm up is just as important as oil choice for long engine life IMO

X 1000 !
I always get digged at for warming the engine up before i drive it, i start it up, make a cuppa, drink it, then drive... but i know its the right thing to do, even the handbook recommends you at least let the engine warm till it moves just above " C ", i let it go a little higher, but i dont care what they say, i aint gonna stop letting the engine warm up before i drive it ! :D

IMO brand isnt as important as the viscosity...

The vitara fsm has the same chart.

Black and gold oil from coles every 20,000km, and reuse my oil filter as that good for a few oil changes.

That to me is akin to having a shower and putting your dirty cloths back on, new oil, new filter.

I use Mobil1 synthetic in my toy, thrash the shit out of it, lives its live at WOT mostly, 0w5, no loss between changes.

My vitara, used the same oil, within a fortnight of getting it, in went mobil 1, within a week or so, she started to use a bit, within a fortnight, bout a liter per 100ks, now she uses Penrite 40/60, no dramas, no smoke, no loss, motor must be buggered, its fine, it lives at the airport, gets about 120k a month, airport to home, then back to airport.

that chart kind of says viscosity doesn't matter so much, you've got just about every common viscosity listed as acceptable in Australia
