| Post subject: | Snorkel on a Vitara |
Hi All, Currently (still) building a snorkel for my Vit and wanted to know if anyone has built it in behind the front quarter and then stealthly coming up the side pillar? instead of the old drilled into the side of the quarter and running on the outside. Any pics would be lots of help just so I can get some different ideas to how I'm doing it. |

This is the idea I have for making my own for our GV. haven't gone further than just an idea yet but have seen it done on a RR and disco and it looks quite neat and tidy I think. Be interested to see how you go about it. |

thats actually a cool idea, are you talking about running tube inside the pillar and just having the snorkel head sticking out the top? cause the tube would probably be too small and restrict airflow... if you could seal off the whole pillar and join that to the intake somehow that would be a better option. if you think about a tube snorkel is usually 3 inch diameter, i wouldnt want it much smaller than that |

Nah the pipe running up the pillar will still be visible but it will dissapear into the guard just in front of the side mirror, there won't be anything running along the guard so it's only half a hidden snorkel. After reading one of the other threads it gave me an idea to run a 2inch pipe as a snorkel, seamed crazy at first but they through around a lot of numbers and it sounded plausable. I'll see how it goes and let you all know, so far the fab work is coming along nicely. Will post pics when it's done incase I fail misserably and give up |

ooh, nice, similar but it will exit the guard apretty much at the top of the bonnet in front of the side mirror. I hope mine turns out neat like that though, |

Surely there would be enough room. The stock contraption of an intake would almost be 3" around... If not reduce it to 2 1/2 inches. No reason why you cant.... The stock airintake itself wouldnt be much bigger than 1". And your talking about a poofteenth in the grand scheme of the almighty 1.6 or 2.0 litre motors |

Yeah exactly, I think it'll be fine going down an inch, it's a small motor with a very small amount of hp, it should be fine and probably not noticable. You will get a cooler air intake and fresher air so there will be some benefits there, then you will make the engine work 1 millionth of a percent harder with the 2" pipe (in my case) so it will probably just cancel eachother out... at least that's what i'm hoping for. I'll do some real world tests when it's done. |

i doubt the G16b could pull on vacum more than what a 2" Pipe will flow (or restrict) ...Hp Machine... |
