HI ya guys Ive just got a 2011 grand vitra 3 door and are having a hard time trying to find out about stuff. lift kits AT tyres and recovery points. Ive just gone out a brought recovery gear. hand winch and straps. any help would be great. I,m getting a harman reese tow bar fitting in the next few days for a rear recovery point. PS I'm new to 4w driving and like to learn more about it and want i need for the car and not getting much help from the stores because they dont deal with many suzuki. thanks

You will need a rated recovery point on the front of the vehicle too.
Either do a 4WD'ing training course, or find some locals to show you the ropes.
It's not generally a good idea to go out 4x4'ing on your own any way, at least until you have a good idea of what your vehicle can handle.

Hi ya thanks for the reply. im in melbourne. suzuki has got back to me about a recorery point in the front attached to the z frame. its the right side shipping tie down but i will not say its rated. thanks for the tip of 4WD training course i didnt know about them. I look into that thanks. please if any one can help me out with anything about lift kits tyres rims size, it would be great.

Defiantly do not snatch off the shipping tie down!!!! (unless somebody with a GV can say it's strong enough?)
If it is a 4mm thick triangle with a hole in it, you will end up with a bow shackle through somebody's (recovery vehicle drivers) head!

I did a google on that 'recovery point'... seems like it 'should' be strong enough, but I would be inclined to go very easy on it (ie, 'towing' not snatching)... and defiantly as a rule don't use shipping points for recovery.

Snatch straps are generally rated at 8000kg and will comfortably see over 12000kg before failure... so think of it like this.... if you attached 8 Grand Vitara's together then threw them off a bridge attached to a bungee cord(snatch strap), would you like that recovery point to be holding all the weight?

do a search for lift/tires, or look at some of the threads in the build section.

a lot of manufactures have tie down points that are suitable for recovery in fact
if it is a 4wd and not a toyota or nissan i bet the handbook will state that ya can use
a tie down point.

Hi, I have an 09 gv 3 door, you can get an arb winch capable bullbar rather then get a hand winch... You can get lifts for them, dobinson and ironman do 40mm lifts or you can get spacer kits. Probly speak to Dank off here for dobinson as probably the cheapest. I have dobinson as do other guys on here and can't complain. As far as at's go its really up to you. I run 245 75 16 cooper st's and can't complain. The gearing is much worse though, if it's auto you might get away with it. You can also get snorkals and other stuff... Just not as much as other 4wds. Hope this helps!

I run 245/75 16 Maxxis Bighorns on a spare set of rims on my diesel GV. Ask your local Zook dealer if he's got some steel 16 inch rims (mine cost a slab and bottle of Jim Beam) and put some mud terrains on for the weekend. These measure 30 inches in diameter and just fit without scraping.

I haven't used the tow point on the drivers side for a snatch recovery but have had a lightly stuck GV towed out of mud several times with it.

Something you will need is a bash plate to protect the engine. I've got a Brown Davis underguard but I don't like the way it's attached to the car. Makes it hard to get on and off. Outdoor Auto sell one but I've seen one of these bend and break. Ironman also have a bash plate for the GV.
