My m13a vvt has been using lots of fuel Lately and you can some times smell petrol when its idling. Turns out my Egr valve was fuked. It got fixed today....not sure how you would check the Egr valve tho... |

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/engine/plugs.html have a look at your plugs when you get a chance also may have a to look into you oxygen sensor (O2 sensor) if that is gummed up with shit or its starting to die then that may also cause some issues (if im wrong please correct me) |

I'm lucky to get about 300kms around town. (and I try to baby it) I can't smell fuel...seems like everything is ok. Perhaps not. (2010 1.3VVT) |

speedos are rarely accurate, especially with taller tyres, so you may be getting better economy than you think. But yes, raise body position adds wind drag, and taller tyres add weight and rolling resistance. Off road capable cars will never be road warriors. |

Are you guys that are worried about your apparent crap fuel economy correcting your odometer readings for the larger tires before working out km/L? |

I'm none vvt as well, but my car is 20 foot in the air so I have wind drag like Chris said My fuel economy is heaps good offroad though I can do a day worth of 4wd and the gauge doesn't move much. I sit at 4100rpm at 100ks. Jimny like to rev. I'm trying to lower my rpm. 3900 would be good I reckon. |

I know all that.. we re talking bout the reading of the speedos without correction.... and we having same kind of tyres they re getting far more than me and I only have 45mm lift, so is not really that much and like I said, when I was stock (suspension and tyres -205/70/15) I still have the same-ish crappy fuel eq (300-350km) not worry bout that, Im worry bout how come they can get 400-500km ?????....... I get the gauge till the red mark.... prob ill still have an extra 5-8lt in the tank on that point, but still |

Mine just has the 80mm TD springs/shocks and 235's so not overly high. |

I reckon I could have gotten 500+ out of it back then. Did a trip to VIC for new years, and fully loaded with swag, and a bit of stuff on the roof, I got around 10.5l/100kms, at round 35l of juice per fill...350ishkms give or take. Thats also with a bullbar, winch, 40mm lift and like I previously mentioned all the gear on the roof! Bert, you're climate may play a little role in yours (heat and humidity etc) but I wouldnt guess that much, but Phil, you definitley have something wrong if you can smell the rich fuelly smell! |

If you really want to check your actual fuel economy accurately go to the servo, reset your tripmeter, fill the tank so its absolutely full ie not to just when the nozzle stops but when you actually can see the fuel level at the filler neck, go use your car till nearly empty, then go back to the servo and re-fuel till its absolutely full like before. Record the tripmeter k's and divide by how many liters the car actually used. |
