Vehicle: suzuki sierra 1994

my 1994 sierra has started blowing ign fuses. When the switch is set to on the fuse blows.A wire from the switchto the coil and the vehicle starts and runs. I have disconnected the pollution control unit and this appears to solve the problem also I can see no visible damage to the compoents within the unit. Can the car be run without this unit in place and if so what other functions will be effected.
