Post subject:  Sierra 1.3 carby solenoid question

Ok so i know there are a million threads on carbies, but i would som clarification on the 'idle up' solenoid...

I was fixing some vacuum lines today, and got the 'idle up' vacuum diaphragm working correctly, ie. with the headlights etc...

but there is also a electric solenoid next to the 'idle up diaphragm' which strikes the same lever as the diaphragm... mine appears to be cactus, and its no big deal, but...

What is this solenoid supposed to do? ie. when should it operate? what's the point? etc....
