Hey guys, I have a dillemma.. I think I may have stuffed my carby.. :(

Following advice from a friend, I pulled 2 hoses off the back of my carby, and blew them out clear. I've just read on another topic that they are for water..
The stuff that came out didn't smell like petrol, but it was very yellow and seemed to smell a bit stagnant.

Now my question.. Have i screwed my carby? The chambers haven't filled back up, and im worried this might cause problems.
My temp gauge doesn't work anymore, and my suzi.. Well it doesn't run any better than before, that's for sure.

How do I fill them back up?
Any advice at all? Thanks!

this will be a silly thing to do and dont keep trying it but pull a hose off, fill your raditaor up and get a 2 litre coke bottle and cut the bottom off, stuff the thing in lid side into teh rad and fill it with water, this should get the water level higher than the carby and hopefully water dribbles from those hoses, if so stick em back on and start it up with the heater on and let it warm up with the odd small rev to try and get some water flowing and the air bubbles moved along

be very careful though as if you have air under the thermostat it wont open and youll stuff your engine, keep a feel on the manifold under the thermostat compared to the housing if the bottom is hot and the top isnt turn it off!!!!!!!!!!

if you dont get water trickle out you can try to run the engine FOR NO MORE THAN MAYBE 10 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to see if it comes out but I would think they hoses are blocked and you should think about replacing them all

make sure they are on the right ports first, then you may have to leave one off while its running to 'bleed' the system for air. check the ports on the carby as these can block with corrosion sometimes.

Ok, thanks royce, hopefully I get a chance to try that out tomorrow in daylight.

Might be a lost cause though, the car has been started and driven since the water was taken out, and I think my radiator may have boiled over after taking the water out as well.. Can't remember if that was before or after though..

Ill see what happens.

What would be the damage, worst case scenario?

worse case is wobbly block and soft rings, maybe a stuffed head

if you can, pull the thermostat out and drill some little holes in it to help bleed the air through

will a carby still work ok if the carby is disconnected from the cooling system. my hoses have started to leak and i was just thinking of blocking them off.
winter only lasts for a week or so here.

yes it will, you will however have to adjsut the choke to fully open, you do that with the screw on the ther side of the chamber the water hoses attach to

choke isnt for cold weather running though, its for while the engine is cold and needs more fuel to help atomise a decent mix

cheers royce i probably should have mentioned that the auto choke stuff was removed by a previous owner and i have a manual choke, although have never had to use it.
