Hi Guys,
Just replaced the front left wheel bearings as they were well and truly shot but there is still a little play in that wheel. I'm assuming that it's the kingpin bearings and just wanted to know if I could have missed something else. I'm also assuming that I can just unbolt them top and bottom and replace them without stripping down the knuckle.
Also, out of interest, would worn wheel bearings cause the kingpin bearings to wear out or would worn kingpins wear out the wheel bearings or both (or non of the above)?

Yes you can replace them without pulling the hubs appart.
Undo the felt seal retaining bolts, take the FWH off and remove the circlip on stub axle, remove the kingpin caps and it should come off. You may need yo remove the steering arms too.
Make sure you replace the bearing race aswell as the bearing.

check where the free play is, if it goes away with somebody holding the brake its likely wheel bearings, but watch underneath while moving wheel and youll see which bit is moving and which bit isnt
you need to remove the knuckle to do the bearings, they are under it
I dont think they would cause either to wear at any noticable rate, perhaps one being loose and creating slop could cause a small amount of hammering in the other

Yeah it's still got play with the brakes on. I'll pick up kingpin bearing today (and shims).
The issue I'm having now is that I've become obsessed with noises, I occasionally hear a knock coming from the rear (right maybe) and it's bugging me.... Anywho, RUF is happening over the next couple of days, I'll worry about the other noises after that.
Thanks Royce and Fatz
