Post subject:  Are NT centres the solution?

Hi All,

I put 4.9 transfer gears in my WT a while back when I was still on 30's with standard gearing everywhere else and I was happy with the "performance" but since going up to the 31" KM2's there's been a subtle but still noticeable difference.

I read somewhere that the NT centres are 3.9 as opposed to the WT 3.7's so my question is, are NT centres with my 4.9 transfer gears the solution?

Only if you think 5% more reduction is a "solution"

I'd consider 4.6 diff gear from a auto carby vitara.

Steve.

I have 31's with 5.14's and it's awesome on and offroad.

With 4.16's it was really good still but not as nice around town. But I definitely noticed that 5% difference.

better yet go 1L 4.1 gears. i have those and a 1L case (stock in my maruti) on 31's and IMO its perfectly geared for the highway, and just as good through town

edit: somehow missed what steve said :? i dont know how easy the vit diff gears go in but i would assume 1L diffs would be easier... could be way wrong on that.

Yes, yes you are :P . The 1L gears don't fit later models unless you get maruti centres. 3.9's will help to lower your gearing and if I remember correctly each inch in tyre size is approximately 5% increase in overall gearing and ergo the 3.9's will bring it back very close to how you were with the 30's

Ok cool, I figured that 31's, 4.9's with 3.7 diff gears got me 2% over standard but I would be 3% under with 3.9's.

Steve. I did consider more reduction but I was pretty happy when it was on 30's and I'm just trying to replicate that final ratio.
